2/ as for laptop, the CPUs now have two types of cores in them; Performance cores and Efficiency cores. Generally you want a higher ratio of Performance cores than Efficiency ones (my current MacBook Pro has 2 efficiency cores and 6 performance cores). This paradigm is the same for PC or Mac.

1/ I reckon there'll be some kind of learning curve no matter what modern software you go for (yeah, probably even Cubase). I jumped on board to Ableton Live after hating the UI for 20 years, and I love it now.

I think most of them have trial versions so you can have a good play around before…
