NEJM and public health group are launching rival to CDC’s MMWR publication Two institutions are coming together to create an alternative to the CDC’s vaunted Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report

🧪Farm workers in California are falling sick with H5N1 symptoms. RFK Jr. has ordered to not test or report cases, to keep it under wraps.

Shady actions like this, to keep the public in the dark is why NEJM & CIDRAP are launching weekly public health alerts, free for the public.

"No IRB in the world would approve it." That's what every researcher has told me about saline placebo trials to test vaccines we already have.

The CDC just got rid of its entire IRB. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Take note of all these people turning out for protests in small towns in red states.

Remember them the next time you’re inclined to write an area off because “they voted for this.”

There are some very strange things going on at the Library of Congress. I’m doing searches for news articles from the Civil Rights Era. Political cartoons. That sort of thing. They used to be easily found.

That stuff is VERY hard to find now. Things are missing, people.

Now I want you to read these replies and think to yourself hot damn, I might feel like shit is going really awry but that's a lot of people out there just all invested in adding to the well being of anyone who needs to be helped, or held, or comforted, or protected.

It’s really hard to find a therapist who can counsel people with actual real threat scenarios, like this one.

For example, I don’t think I have “haters”. I have actual coordinated attacks on my safety and wellbeing, sir or ma’am.

Same with political conflicts like these.

We need new professional models that don’t assume stable salaries, institutional subsidies, or invisible labor.

If we want history to thrive, we need to rethink how we value and pay for its work. 10/

Academics and activists have tried to help people see that social problems are structural--that people's struggles often stem from the way systems of power and privilege prevent them from getting by or getting ahead. That kind of structural thinking is inoculation against authoritarianism.

most industries have failed to communicate, especially in light of the USA eviscerating funding, is that science and engineering is not something you can just “discover” and “learn” once but, instead, they require steady application and continuous support over time or else you risk losing it.

What explicates this choice and justifies it as ethical?

Despite being considered an absolute, inviolate identity, patients are not viewed as a source of ✨knowledge✨; instead, inclusion is seen as a hoop to jump through to receive funding; and as a virtue signal rather than engaging ethically. 🧵

Phones and social media often gets blamed for the youth mental health crisis. But if we're going to let correlation be a proxy for causation, then why aren't we making the same case about how the rise of high-stakes academics has crowded out music and art?

Amid the Milwaukee lead crisis, a laid-off CDC scientist volunteered his expertise. It wasn’t so simple After his job was cut, a CDC scientist volunteered to help Milwaukee respond to the lead crisis in its public schools. For now, he's in limbo.

Milwaukee needs help tracing kids who were exposed to lead in schools. A member of the #CDC lead poisoning team — a team laid off in the the DOGE cuts last month — volunteered to go help. But in these strange times, even an offer of help poses challenges. www.statnews.com/2025/05/12/l...
