I understand it's hard for some to use the term concentration camp, even for those horrified by what's happening. And there are settings (e.g., court) where it may not be helpful today. The key thing to realize is that there's an arc of how detention regimes tend to go, and we're recognizably on it.
30.01.2026 20:13 β π 722 π 229 π¬ 8 π 12A judge has ordered the release of Twin Cities independent journalist Georgia Fort this afternoon, rejecting the U.S. governmentβs claims that her allegations constitute a crime of violence that necessitate keeping her detained.
30.01.2026 20:50 β π 1492 π 502 π¬ 24 π 28I donβt know if local zoning laws can interfere w/the federal govβs use plans, regardless. I suspect they canβt. Thatβs why Iβm curious to examine the rules about services these buildings rely on that are upstream of the property (and under state governance) power, water, even roads.
30.01.2026 20:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In other words, they canβt tell the feds how to use their property. But can they tell state utilities how to serve these properties?
30.01.2026 20:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Rules on bldg services are a matter of state law; it might be worth asking if state govt can make operating such facilities grounds for utility shutoff, or which simply ban providing utilities to them.
Donβt focus on whatβs not possible. Ask βwhatβs the most we can possibly do to oppose this?β

Federal agents from where? What federal agency is arresting journalists? Not seeing this in the news stories or announcements.
Many ppl have been talking about how we need better civics education to have better government. This is both.

The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

Should Senators now refuse to vote for any of these appropriations bills and force a partial shutdown?
We're living in a bizarro world where polling at 5% doesn't deter the party in power at all, while the opposition party constantly wrings their hands about accidentally being too aggressive
