I understand it's hard for some to use the term concentration camp, even for those horrified by what's happening. And there are settings (e.g., court) where it may not be helpful today. The key thing to realize is that there's an arc of how detention regimes tend to go, and we're recognizably on it.

A judge has ordered the release of Twin Cities independent journalist Georgia Fort this afternoon, rejecting the U.S. government’s claims that her allegations constitute a crime of violence that necessitate keeping her detained.

I don’t know if local zoning laws can interfere w/the federal gov’s use plans, regardless. I suspect they can’t. That’s why I’m curious to examine the rules about services these buildings rely on that are upstream of the property (and under state governance) power, water, even roads.

In other words, they can’t tell the feds how to use their property. But can they tell state utilities how to serve these properties?

Rules on bldg services are a matter of state law; it might be worth asking if state govt can make operating such facilities grounds for utility shutoff, or which simply ban providing utilities to them.

Don’t focus on what’s not possible. Ask “what’s the most we can possibly do to oppose this?”

I have ZERO expectations that there will be widespread journalist solidarity with those arrested. And that will be a downfall for journalism as a whole.
