This means that he would be held for a short period of time so the feds can get their documents in order to file a federal level case.

He was arrested under a state level law so he was seen before a judge that was state/ county level. It seems like after he was arrested for "breaking" a state law that ICE requested that he not be released until they had a chance to do an investigation or something.

It's a federal agency and she is a county level judge. Basically she can't overrule the feds, that would require a federal level judge. It's annoying and stupid in this case but makes sense in many other cases. (Not necessarily ICE related ones... but like FBI and stuff)

My dad retired as a LTC from the Army (same rank as the guy that wrote the letter). He has a 100% VA disability rating. We are concerned about him losing access to his much needed healthcare.

I completely believe that letter was written by a veteran. It sounds almost exactly what my dad said to me just a week ago. About how he is proud that he served his country for 26 years but that he has many regrets on how it affected our family. And of his grave concerns about the future of the US.

I think we are agreeing overall but looking at different time scales. I think that, similar to companies bought by private equity, the US might be able to limp along for a bit (6 months to 3 years). Then it will come crashing down completely.

(I might be completely wrong about the timing tho.)

Probably by increasing the deficit.

Which reminds me of how private equity firms will buy a business with a loan and then saddle the company with the debt. If the debt burden becomes too much and the company fails then the private equity firm sells off the parts and doesn't have to pay the loans.

A fairly quick google search for FDA food recalls brings up the FDA website which does list these recalls. I assume Dr. Rubin is just trying to make people aware of the recalls that are occurring.
