And these people seem to have really low tolerances for all other types of health risk!

If they’re going to be cavalier about the long-term effects of COVID, they could at least be more chill about my resting heart rate and sedentary lifestyle πŸ˜’

Seriously! It drives me up the wall.

My therapist is still requiring masks and the veterinarian offers to mask because we do.

Actual medical doctors? Nurse practitioners? Nope.

If it didn’t matter TO HIM until now, it must not have been important πŸ™„

Yeah. IMO every situation calling for plausible-looking text would be better served by either a lorem ipsum generator (so the made-up text is easy to identify) or a reusable template that’s been thoughtfully written and edited.

If I have a spare circular needle handy, I’ll start by thread that through the stitches of the row I want to keep FIRST, and then rip down to it.

It’s easier to see and work with the stitches while the rows above are still there to hold them in place relative to one another.

I just saw someone use the abbreviation β€œAI;DR” and I’ll be laughing for a while.

It’s kind of weird even just compared to the rest of my city!

Each house does have its own bin for recycling, though, go figure.

My neighborhood is weird, we have single-family houses and big shared trash bins in the alleys.

It’s great, I’m too ADHD to remember to roll the trash can to the curb every Sunday night. (and thank god I don’t live in the kind of HOA that fines you for leaving the bin on the curb for too long)

Wait, actually I think every place Iβ€˜ve lived as an adult had outside trash cans/dumpsters shared by multiple households.

It never occurred to me to clean them at all 😬

It potentially messes up your ability to do all kinds of stuff.

- travel
- vote
- deal with any future interactions with law enforcement or ICE
- drive
- buy alcohol/tobacco/cannabis
- get a money order (how I used to pay rent every month)
- start a new job
- go to a 21+ show
- etc

Ugh, and even if you *are* able to replace things relatively easily, it sucks to be without for weeks while waiting for the new documents to come in the mail (maybe months if you need to get one thing before you can replace another)

There's something deeply upsetting about this software being a simulacrum of a woman. It stinks of misogyny.
And, in a world where a living human with dreams and free will can say "I am a woman," and be hated for it, it becomes extra fucky that we so casually call this NES sprite "she."

Yeah.

And, while I can see why the UA could be susceptible to this, ASU would have been a more vigorously anti-woke choice.

Even if you could make an argument for picking any of these individually, idk what criteria would match *all* of these universities *while excluding others*

Yeah, this seems like a very mixed group.

Public and private, even though public schools generally deal with more political pressure around funding.

Some that moved very quickly to suppress pro-Palestine protests or cancel DEI initiatives, but also some that didn’t.

The University of Arizona had a massive financial crisis a couple of years back and there has been a ton of senior leadership turnover since then.

So things are unstable generally and there’s been a lot of concern and public scrutiny around funding.

People who coax chatbots into sensible answers are basically opening and closing the fridge until it contains something you wanna eat, yes, eventually you get hungrier & eat the stuff in there. But what changed was your cognition. The fridge stayed the same. You changed your mind about the contents.

I feel like the web might be a better place if people still assumed their users only had 56k.

I remember a time before auto-playing video ads.

Yeah, my university started having structured activities for parents during orientation just to keep them from hovering over their students the whole time.

Hopefully some of that was β€œstop hovering” lessons.

I guess I’m interpreting things uncharitably.

And it’s not like this was my first-choice as a student either, just the only place offering a scholarship big enough to get away from my parents.

IT Summit off to a great start with the interim CIO sneakily negging the university in his welcome speech.

(He’s faculty, and implied that when he was job searching he’d expected to end up somewhere better πŸ™„)

You’ll have to buy a new pair of scissors either way, and a new pair of regular scissors is way cheaper than replacing the fabric scissors!

And you could set a drink or a plate down, too, unlike on that rebar cube they call a coffee table

If party guests tend to stand around in the bathroom, i don’t think it’s because the bathroom is great, it’s because there’s something off about the rest of the house.

(Like maybe the fact that there is only ONE comfortably-padded piece of furniture in their ENTIRE HOUSE)

Yeah, I like concrete floors, but that is a LOT of stark, gray concrete. Sounds must echo like crazy, too.

And all those big windows are just looking into the same narrow, claustrophobic courtyard.

It is good! In college we used to mix it with butterscotch schnapps. That’d probably be too sugary for my taste now, but it did have a nice caramel apple flavor.

I have sometimes made edits directly to a site’s MySQL database when the CMS isn’t cooperating.

I wouldn’t exactly say it’s a *good* approach, but it is an effective one.
