Makes me feel like i should take my syringes on little outings to the zoo or the park or something.

As a kid, I read a lot of books I was unprepared for--I could confidently read all the words on the page, but didn't have enough social or historical context to really understand the points being made.

CliffsNotes probably would have helped if I'd known what they were at the time.

Unlike an AI summary, CliffsNotes can be used as a kind of study guide if you do read the book yourself.

You get a sense of the historical context and how the book was received. You know what symbols or themes to watch for as you read.

I expect that SparkNotes/CliffsNotes will be accurate.

If you use CliffsNotes for an essay, you can write something vague and unoriginal, but basically passable. People might suspect you didn't read the book, but you haven't said anything wrong enough to prove that you're faking.

That seems a little too close-together for anyone commuting and cooking.

I’m an outlier in the other direction, though. I usually eat breakfast between 6 and 7, lunch around 2pm, and dinner at 6pm or later (if alone I’ll eat dinner around 9pm, but my family wants to eat earlier)

The thing I wish people would understand about bodies:

Except in a VERY FEW cases, you don't get sick, and then get better.

You get sick, or hurt, or find out something's off with your body - and then if you're lucky they can restore *most* of what you had before, AND YOU STILL HAVE TO GO TO WORK.

And IMO students' addresses/phone numbers especially shouldn't be shared without a warrant regardless of whether or not FERPA technically allows it.

It sounds like what was shared is "directory information," which isn't always confidential under FERPA.

This is still a serious violation of students' trust, though. Just b/c directory info MAY be disclosed doesn't mean it MUST be.

Still interesting/constructive, though, even though it’s hard for me to articulate exactly how.

My therapist recommended EMDR for pretty much exactly that.

I tried it for a few months (with a different therapist from my usual one, b/c she isn’t trained in EMDR).

I think it did focus on my most proximate emotional crisis rather than the more general problem.

Nice! I've seen advice to dab some paint on the inside of the switch plate so you can take it to the store as a sample in the future, but having the info written out is probably better--makes sure you get the right brand and gloss level too.

For at least 30% of my time at my university (first as a student, now as staff) there has been another person on campus who shares my first AND last name 🤣

Yeah, that’s become my go-to cookbook.

I like that the recipes tend to be structured as a basic recipe followed by suggested additions.

Ideas are there if you want to be fancier, but you don’t have to get hung up on that—you can also just make the minimal version and trust that it’ll be good

Yes! My last place was more open-plan; my current house is about the same square footage but feels so crowded.

The bathroom and both bedrooms open off of a tiny hallway, so we’re always getting in each others way. You can’t just walk past someone, you have to wait for them to move.

I think there are vintage ones with longer handles--makes it a lot easier to close it on the lip of the can. I sometimes use both hands for that part, but then it doesn't need ongoing grip strength while turning the crank, just holding the handles up enough so the weight doesn't tip over the can.

Swing-a-way Extra Easy can opener. It has a long hand crank handle to turn instead of the shorter, symmetrical knob that's more typical on can openers.

The ones with the long crank handles are great, too!

Good luck fitting one into a drawer, but really satisfying to use if you have weak hands or especially difficult cans.

The DIY postage printing machine isn’t quite as bad, but it’s pretty confusing in its own right.

The last time I was mailing something it was broken, so I just went to the counter. They charged me less than $2 for something I’d normally have paid $10 to send!
