Chapter 12. No surprise, James REALLY doesn’t like Black Mirror.

He thinks what we need is a White Mirror sort of show: where a futuristic technology is introduced and things turn out much better than imagined.

…folks, I worry that I may not have been mean *enough* in this review.

sort of dreading polesky* waking up and getting mad about this because they can't read**

* triple note: i don't like calling polish people poles (midcentury yikevibe), i am not calling them polisky, and polesky is a different thing
**this is not an anti-polish sentiment; nobody on bluesky can read

for several years now i have thought of joyce posts as a giant photon cannon in eccentric high earth orbit. somewhere between once every couple of days and once a month she's over target and casually lases him in the dick with amplified solar fury. she then returns to writing and catposting.

A commitment to Truth doesn't look like you're right all the time. It means that when someone points out your falsehood, you rectify yourself. That is the difference between a liar and an honest man. Someone who has never once conceded the Truth has no share in the Truth—they are abusers and lackeys

i think it really does depend. is the median polish person a raving antisemite? unclear; hopefully not. but even if they are not: from an institutional standpoint, this is ridiculous and antihelpful to making any sort of reasoned assessment.

why would i be embarassed about being correct? if i was wrong, and you were certain you were right, surely it would be a trivial matter to educate me on my error.

one way to make polish people the maddest they will ever be is by pointing out that it is unlawful in poland to suggest that they had agency over any decision that could possibly pertain to the holocaust prior to 1989.

I don’t agree with this in a pretty major way. The point of the argument online isn’t to win the other guy over, it’s to make your points to bystanders to prevent them from being won over by the other guy and to give them new ways to argue back.

I get that this is bsky so critical thinking is less important than making sure your take is hot enough, but it wasn't just plantation owners or even just slave owners that were bought into this system. Are you going to kill everyone down to the poorest sharecropper? Where does it end?

It is kinda fun that we get to pat ourselves on the back about our superior pro-genocide moral position, though.

i understand that you want very deeply in your heart to defend slavery on the basis of your belief that killing any of its interlocutors is white genocide. i know this because you said it.
getting flustered and calling me names is simply not going to change my belief that slavery is bad.

pro tip. if you are speaking about sharecroppers and slaveowners in contemporary terms, you are speaking about an edge case antebellum scenario in mississippi, in which case the sharecropper standing in front of the slaveowner is a confederate soldier.

i will not post lore but occasionally if i see the glint of a dread bane in the distance, i will flash a fragment of a forbidden rune or wicked sigil as a countersign in the hopes that an allied sniper team will mistakenly use it to triangulate my position and return my spirit to the lorestream.
