I’m not sure how it isn’t a massive political loser to tell people flat-out that they’ve been had.

This is from an actual, longstandjng, respected mainstream JOURNALIST.

I hear it’s written in a very light-footed style.

These days it can be difficult to find a stout/porter that is regular-strength (I.e. around 5-6% ABV) that’s really tasty. This here is a go-to for me.

I’m not sure I can think of a word as fun to say as “yeet.”

I love that you said all this, taking it from stereotype to “no, really, you need it for this job.”

And I’ve gone from “GOD I HATE THE ED SO MUCH” to “I am soooo glad there are people who enjoy this environment,” and legitimately meaning it.

Absolutely disgraceful.

But none of those you mentioned are abbreviations that physicians use. Which is kinda wild.

The vet we saw this weekend threw down some abbreviations with S’s in them or some such, and I had no idea what she meant. She explained they were “every day” and “every other day”, and I said, “Oh, we use QD and QOD”, and she said, “I have no idea what those mean.” 😵‍💫

Doctors have a series of abbreviations that we use for medication dosing schedules. E.g., BID = twice a day, QOD = every other day, etc. These are Latin-derived.

TIL that veterinarians have completely different Latin-based acronyms for the same dosing schedules in animals.

How did that happen??

Well, duh. Did anybody expect anything different?

If you stop your blood pressure medication, your blood pressure will go back up. Obesity is no different. It’s a chronic disease and needs to be managed as such.

Companies act like this when they feel they will face no recourse. It seems United Health Care needs to be made more uncomfortable yet.

“Abolish ICE,” though completely justified in the past, was unfortunately just too far left of the Overton Window to have any real impact.

It should now be the mainstream position among Democrats, and anybody who disagrees should get primaried out of office.

Cloud Atlas, by David Mitchell.

It’s quite engaging reading. But in 50-ish page sections, each with a completely different setting, time, characters, plot, form, and language, with only the most tenuous connection to what came before.

It’s a renowned book, so I’m thinking this will tie together eventually…

These days there are increasingly books that ride the line between the two, sometimes to superb effect.

A Visit From The Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan is one of these, and it’s among my favorite books. The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticar is another outstanding example.

Kinda wild to have read 200 pages into a 500-page novel and still have no idea where it’s going.

Liberal values are only viewed as a bad thing by about 50% of the population. We’re very highly polarized and closely divided.

We are fighting one giant rearguard action against reaction, forever. We must manipulate the structure of constitutional government in our favor against theirs, as they have learned to do. Admit DC and Puerto Rico as states. Pack the Supreme Court. Repeal the filibuster. Anything less is treason.

This isn’t an American thing. The right wing is having a resurgence all over the world.

Among the differences here are:

1. We don’t have a parliamentary system, so we’re stuck with this guy for 3.5 more years; and

2. Our power in the world makes it more dangerous to everyone.

Trash is piling up on July 4th — a major holiday here — b/c the mayor is insisting on 3% raises instead of 5%.

Amazing political incompetence.
