if there's a reason to keep up the "tribunals for all involved" discourse one such reason it is to put in stark relief how far away some of the Dem politicking is from the mood on the ground

i'm tapping the sign because a lot of people just seem to forget that "nsfw" doesn't just mean porn. it means "not safe for work." would i get sent to HR for having this on my computer monitor? yes? then it's not safe for work. for the love of everything that is holy, stop erasing the meaning.

In Monrovia, California, protesters are purchasing 17ยข ICE scrapers from Home Depot and immediately returning them to create long lines and slow down the entire store. Their aim is to disrupt sales and convey a message opposing ICE raids occurring in their neighborhood.

it is absolutely the tech companies fault that people now assume theyโ€™re doing something evil and sneaky even when they actually arenโ€™t (regarding the latest Google kerfuffle)

like, no kidding that people have zero willingness to cut big tech the benefit of the doubt anymore

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

The logic of algorithms tends to repeat what โ€œworks,โ€ but art opens up what is possible. Not everything has to be immediate or predictable. Defend slowness when it serves a purpose, silence when it speaks and difference when evocative. Beauty is not just a means of escape; it is, above all, an invocation. When cinema is authentic, it does not merely console but challenges. It articulates the questions that dwell within us and sometimes even provokes tears that we did not know we needed to express.

Pope Leo XIV understands technology and its relationship to art better any executive or AI-pilled techbro running the conference circuit.

It's because fascism is and always has been a death cult. It's about "creating a future" while making no actual plans because the point is to die in their forever conflict to "build" said future.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that โ€œwe need to rebuild trust in science,โ€ because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

"Any illusion from Disneyโ€™s ongoing lawsuit with Midjourney that it was skeptical of AI has been washed away; what itโ€™s skeptical of is not controlling the AI itself."

The illustration is funny. Fortnite/Ready Player One is how they imagine the future of franchises.

It's amazing how they never seem to realize that one of the MAIN core tenants of fascism is bio-essentialism. Girlies, the call is coming from inside the authoritarian house.

It's because they do understand the process of making art & how different it is from most other forms of labor. It's not something that can be automated (nor should it) because automation requires no thought, just repetition. The act of creation inherently demands reflection & introspection.

bad writing can lowkey be beautiful. not because the language is beautiful but because bad writing can reveal things about the writer that "good writing" would know to conceal or distract from. sometimes when reading bad writing I feel a terrible, thrilling closeness to the author.
