An amazing book; every fantasy reader should have this and all others. My favorite thing is that Mr. Sullivan got all six books (now three) written before publishing one. So there are no sudden hints, no abandoned story lines, and the underlying story flows seamlessly from beginning to end.

Looking for recommendations - my book club meets next week (right after the #MayDay event!) and the theme is biographies. Does anyone have a rec for one related to surviving the onset of the Great Depression? Feels like it would be useful.

There are more hydrogen atoms in a single molecule of water than there are stars in our entire solar system.

A calming haiku for these unprecedented times:

Oh God, what the fuck?!?
Like, what the absolute fuck?!?
What even is this?!?

Palatine IL showed up for #HandsOff ~ around 500 people, and a really wonderful reaction from the vast majority of passerbys!

A fairly thorough guide to rally/protest personal protections. And please remember, "Hands Off" rallies are intended to be peaceful!

I have completed, addressed, stamped, and sent 150 postcards to encourage my local electorate to support mental health initiatives. I have no plans this weekend, which is quite unusual. I am going to stick my head in the sand for 48 hours of self-care, then resume the fight on Monday morning.

Haha! I was twisting my curls for... years? Oof. It did give my stockinette a unusual look, if not the stretch and drape. Kudos for paving your own way!!!

β€œFrodo: I can’t do this, Sam.

Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?

Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.”

Tolkien

I choose to believe that Sean Astin is as kind, wise, loyal, brave, adorable, and loving in real life as he so effortlessly portrays in his characters. I am not entertaining any feedback to the contrary.

I love TAAT! The boring parts seem to go faster, and the interesting parts last longer; it's weird. Plus, no second sock syndrome! Best of luck as you go!

In today's "be the change", I spent most of the weekend helping my local library's book sale, and on half-price day, got 160 books for $20 to donate to Bernie's Book Bank. Hurray!

Today in "be the change": created handouts with the information to call IL senators to reject Vought. Tomorrow to print and start distributing!

What a horrible day to discover that my hard nihilistic shell was covering a secret gooey optimistic center. And with that shriveled up, the shell collapsed.

I am very scared for America, and stuck on what to do. I can't lose my job (majority wage earner), nor do I want to put my family in the crosshairs (violent maga response to nearly anything that falls short of hero worship). What can I do? Gah.
