A screenshot of an survey question from Apple asking:
How do you typically listen to Apple Music?
Select all that apply.
• On my smartphone
• In my car
• On my home speakers
• On my tablet
• On my TV
Other (specify):
Under “other” the user has entered “On my Mac.” And, in retrospect, wishes he had added several exclamation marks.
I took Apple’s feedback survey for Apple Music and was surprised to see that for the question “How do you listen to Apple Music?“ the possible answers did not include “on my computer.” Which maybe goes some way towards explaining why the Mac Music app is so bad. @siracusa.social

I’m looking forward to a repeat of the election integrity freakout: “It doesn’t matter that the data is correct. What matters is that people *feel* like the data is correct.”

My reference point: family of four, live in Northern California, careful about dining out budget, have spent over $15k on food each of the last three years. Not sure how that would scale down to one or two people. But like, $20k annually on food doesn’t seem insane to me.

Mass Deportation: Analyzing the Trump Administration's Attacks on Immigrants, Democracy, and America - American Immigration Council
The first six months of President Trump’s return to office have marked the most extreme changes to the immigration system in modern U.S. history.
Jan–Jul 2025: Abandoning fundamental American values to radically change immigration policy, animated by the lie that foreigners of all kinds and statuses are an inherent threat to native-born Americans. Causing suffering, fear, and instability for millions inside and outside the country.

I cheated with Wikipedia (sorry, @merriam-webster.com) and found that “A more restrictive and technical definition requires that homonyms be simultaneously homographs and homophones.”
So informally it’s a union in the Venn diagram, but formally it mat be intended as an intersection.

Is every homonym also a homophone, in the way every square is a kind of rectangle?

“It was a very healthy reciprocal acceptance of suffering,” he said. “Which does not mean being defeated by suffering. Acceptance is not defeat. Acceptance is just awareness.” He smiled in anticipation of the callback: “ ‘You gotta learn to love the bomb,’ ” he said. “Boy, did I have a bomb when I was 10. That was quite an explosion. And I learned to love it. So that's why. Maybe, I don't know. That might be why you don't see me as someone angry and working out my demons onstage. It's that I love the thing that I most wish had not happened.”
I love the thing that I most wish had not happened.
I asked him if he could help me understand that better, and he described a letter from Tolkien in response to a priest who had questioned whether Tolkien's mythos was sufficiently doctrinaire, since it treated death not as a punishment for the sin of the fall but as a gift. “Tolkien says, in a letter back: ‘What punishments of God are not gifts?’ ” Colbert knocked his knuckles on the table. “ ‘What punishments of God are not gifts?’ ” he said again. His eyes were filled with tears. “So it would be ungrateful not to take everything with gratitude. It doesn't mean you want it. I can hold both of those ideas in my head.”
when i think of Colbert, i think of an interview he gave to GQ when he first took over The Late Show, and had this to say about losing his father and brothers in a plane crash. www.gq.com/story/stephe...
