It's the sort of thing that only happens when the Government fears existential threat to their existence because it creates existential threats to their own existence. Not just leader mind you Government, because their needs to be a lot of buy in to carry this sort of stuff out.

This is one of the things I keep stressing, even some of the most repressive Governments on Earth are loathe to brutally crack down on mass protests with lethal violence.

My sense is that this isn't true. A lot of the cheap cuts are fairly expensive too since they're often sold as giant chunks of 2-5 pounds. The cost of liver is comparable to chicken breast. Things like beef tongue are 8 bucks a pound.

fundamentally I think it is good to be able to hold all of these ideas simultaneously:

- what the bad guys are doing is bad

- they are going to do enormous damage

- they are not infallible supergeniuses whose every move turns out perfectly as planned

I don't know how fair or unfair it is, for better or worse, the left is strongly tied into and 'invested' in non-traditional media, which seems very prone to this sort of wild spiraling. It certainly was a deliberate choice by the Sanders campaign to lean into non-traditional media.

It honestly doesnt make sense in the context of how much money we are talking about. Netflix didn't even want those channels, probably could have scooped them up separately if they really really wanted them.

I remember "The Hunt" a movie tailor made to those sensibilities which featured over the top liberal caricatures which the trailers made obvious were the villains, hunting right wing coded victims, and it was clear in the trailer the victims would turn the tables, but MAGA freaked out about it.
