Remember when we learned that our wealthiest and most powerful people were connected to a guy who ran a literal child sex trafficking ring?
And then that guy died mysteriously in a jail?
And now we just don't talk about it.

Wonder what became of him?

Huh. I think I saw this movie as a kid. Hasn’t crossed my mind in 40 years!

I had never thought of that but it would make sense. I would guess culturally lesbians and gay males probably have a 30 or 40 years head start in terms of the culture seeing it as within the realm of β€œnormal” ways to be. Their liberation happened to be the tip of the spear.

Ah, yeah, I guess so. The most biphobic (or bi-skeptical) people in my own lived experience are hetero women and gay men, but that would make sense because I’m a guy. (e.g. anyone who potentially could match w/ me wants me to β€œpick a side”.)

Vast majority of this wealth is an untaxed, unrealized capital gain. Some of these billionaires borrow against their immense wealth at low rates for living expenses to avoid paying tax. When they die, the capital gain is no longer taxable. The strategy is known as β€œbuy, borrow, die.”

I'm a bi guy myself and I don't have any quibble with what you've written here, although I'm not sure what you mean by "sex thing." There is sometimes contentiousness about people who are bisexual but NOT biromantic. Is that what you mean? Some ppl ID that way, other ppl are annoyed by it.

Oh yes, I completely agree. It's good to see more honest numbers from the youth. I think my point still stands, though. There are people who do dabble and experiment. I was in college in the 90s and I personally know several who did. It's not really that big a deal imho. I don't mean to offend.

This is interesting. Although the first thing that pops into my mind is I think it’s common for college-age people to id as bisexual or otherwise lgbtq as they explore who they are and then if you poll that same cohort a decade later you find many no longer identify as such.

You can understand media consolidation into the hands of the very wealthy not just as a product of wealth concentration but also as a means to defend it, with Bezos at the Post being the most obvious example

You were looking at agave vs table sugar as culinary ingredients. I’m thinking molecular ring structures and the impact on people challenged by obesity and diabetes who might be trying to avoid sugar and be hoodwinked by a misleading label. Again, neither of us is wrong!

On its ingredient list was agave nectar, which is a sugar (fructose). So I said β€œfalse advertising.” You commented and disagreed. We bickered on Twitter for an hour or so! :-)

You process the information in the opposite order. Neither of us is wrong! What we’d benefit from is appreciating each others’ perspective and priorities. About fifteen years ago I posted a photo of a grocery product that advertised itself as having no added sugar.

I never see these β€œconflicts” as opinionated assholishness! More like, intellectual curiosity and viewpoint divergence. We think about food on various dimensions. I center nutritiousness and that food’s place in my overall diet, and then taste/culinary considerations come after that.

ESPN has the rights to the 2027 Super Bowl, but CBS is already planning an alternative halftime show featuring Steven Pinker, Alan Dershowitz, and J. K. Rowling.

Forgiven!

If you think Saga and I getting cantankerous about mayo and hummus is bad, you should hear our discussions about packaged foods using agave nectar as a sweetener being labeled "no added sugar"! πŸ˜‚

Ok I guess. We’ve run into this before. I think you and I just see things differently. We’re talking about the spread you put on a sandwich. I cited hummus as a nice upgrade because it mitigates the one major issue mayo has. It’s a useful tip, delivered in a semi-ribbing way. Sorry to offend.

What? That's a big part of why I switched to hummus. True, mayo is the traditional thing, but hummus is an upgrade!

I use hummus in place of mayo. No animal components involved. Very tasty, with the right texture. Just had a sandwich like that the other day at Wegmans.

A reminder: The Attorney General of the United States should be the people's lawyer, not the president's personal attorney. The Department of Justice should act to protect the public, not the occupant of the Oval Office and his political allies.
