#nestbuilders #BirdoftheDay This Canada Goose decided to nest in a planter on a floating-home marina where I was doing an electrical inspection for the city. I returned weeks later and was told she successfully fledged two goslings

#BirdoftheDay is #SmallBirdBigPersonality so I feel obliged to post the worlds smallest bird, the Bee Hummingbird from Cuba. This feisty male didn’t want to sit for a portrait, but I waited him out.

Best guess w/in an order of magnitude. A good estimate is always better than an x. 👍😍😜

Every time I hear Sandhill Cranes I'm surprised by their amazing volume. This guy single-handedly drowned out the din of a nearby flock of Cackling Geese. #birding

We #birded Sauvie's Island today looking for Snow Geese but instead were treated to sightings several close groups of Trumpeter Swans (shown) and Tundra Swans.

Rufous Hummingbird hovers, it’s wings double-exposed to look like 4 wings moving

Then there are the Fiery-throated hummers that almost blind you.

I get 98% Anna’s in my yard, and an occasional rufous in the late spring when the ribes sanguineum (red-flowering currant) is in bloom

Yes… here’s a shot I took of an Anna’s in very low-angle light in my back yard. They usually iridesce a dark red, but this guy ran thru blue indigo and violet. (Screenshot from my eBird)

I have them in my backyard—thats the extent of my expertise—and think this is a molting/juv male. I’ve not seen females with the pointed gorget color, though you are correct the females can be colorful.

Well, bird of the day theme is #borb… and in many cultures well-fed is not a pejorative. ;) I myself am “full figured” 😜

#borbs? I guess my #birdoftheday will have to be this well-fed Oregon Dark-eyed Junco named for my adopted home state.
