OK team, I understand what you heard might have been “get the broadband twerk”, but what I actually told you to do was….

All the world’s a stage, except when the budget would only stretch to an abandoned quarry.

You just need to understand that the barista/customer relationship is analogous to the lawyer/client relationship. You pay them to distainfully explain intentionally obscure technical terms. On subsequently visits you are judged, so diligently repeat only what you were coached to say.

The party of free market capitalism are shocking hypocritical when people freely choose the ‘wrong’ education!

Bernard is a charming chap who donated his fee for this public information film about flammable hairspray to charity.

Why does the AI industry put such absurd value on PhD level intelligence? We have a bunch of those sitting around in our University cafe.

Sorry, you probably make a good point, but I'm too busy laughing at the bit where he wrote 'my column' then drew a tiny penis.

Magritte's painting "the treachery of images" (a painting of a pipe with the words "ceci n'est pas une pipe" underneath ('this is not a pipe'), but the painted pipe is replaced by the Tubular Bells logo from the Mike Oldfield album of the same name.

The idea that websites all over the world would be expected to comply with this sort of thing from all 200-ish different jurisdictions worldwide is frankly ludicrous.

‘North Atlantic’ is such a clumsy name, we should definitely rename it bread roll.

But you lose all your UK traffic, which for local businesses could easily be 100%

It’s not just the startups that write ludicrous NDAs. I am still officially unable to disclose who the developer of M*cr*s*ft P*w*rP**nt is or what it will be called.

Categorising isn’t their strong point. As I understand it, the Marquis De Sade’s “120 days of Sodom” isn’t defined as harmful (text only exemption applies) but the Barbie move is (it’s a 12A cert, therefore reasonable to expect it’s harmful to under 12s so 17 year olds must be protected from it).

So sites have to either put in age checks even though they believe they are compliant or wait until after Ofcom decides that they have to pay a fine of up to £18m before they can defend themselves, plus there's a legal duty not to overreact and put the age checks in where not needed?

I find it helps to think about reply threads as documents to be read by your followers rather than a series of 1-to-1 chats with individuals.

From that angle, your followers awarding zero likes is sufficient feedback to the author. It's also fine if a few followers find value/humour when you don't.

True, but would those parents care about their children using a VPN, fake ID or simply going to non-compliant web sites like Google?

11.08.2025 07:42 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

The money spent on the Online Safety Act would certainly have been better spent on educating parents, especially as the bill was always doomed to failure even if @Ofcom hadn't completely botched the implementation.
