My 10 year old lad, who sat at the Oval enthralled through Sunday and Monday last weekend, was offered the chance to go the the 100 game today (comes free with Surrey membership). “No thanks Dad, no way it’ll be as good as a test match.” Nearly wept with pride.

Irony is the investors are almost certain to demand a shift to the T20 format next year, making it even more pointless!

Ah ok! As I said, divisive. I’ve maybe warmed to them a bit this summer and I love JR and HB. But the whole Baz and Stokesy “we’ll have a bowl” thing and vibes-based selection criteria leaves me very cold. Honestly think we could be the best team in the world with a little more pragmatism.

This one lacked big name baddies, and a vaguely divisive (at best) England team, along with an odd lack of stakes going in, but boy did it deliver in purely cricketing terms

Oh it was obviously amazing! Rewatched the boxset a few weeks back and TB didn’t seem as tight as I remembered! I think context was everything with that series, with the Aussie legends bowing out and a very likeable England team…

Best series for decades. Even better than 2005, which for all the drama actually only had two nail biters. 4/5 of these tests could have gone either way going in to the last session.

My beef with Live Aid is the regular assertion that they sold 72k tickets. The stadium capacity at the time was 90k. Even with a third of it closed behind the stage there would be 60k in the stands alone. WHY THE COVER UP???
