Elden Ring does? I have been playing it fine though

I don't know much about this. I had a 3050, but now an rtx 3060 so performance hasn't been much of a concern for me besides cyberpunk. I wonder if the issue is better drivers on Windows optimized for specific games. Never really compared performance. Only noticed the Godot engine was faster.

I remember being forced to use MacOS for about a year for work. Mobile game development. My favorite aspect of it was that unix based commands. And then eventually my favorite feature was to use Win10 instead. My opinion of it isn't high when the software I had to use on it included xcode.

I think gaming is probably a strong point ever since this year. I did have issues with Noita and many games due to Nvidia drivers and Wayland. But nowadays it's not an issue. I can even play modded Window's games with Windows livesplit. Music software however, I have issues getting working.

I am using EndeavorOS for my distro so my drivers are usually nearly whatever is latest. I don't usually play multiplayer anticheat games. The games I have beaten recently would be Abiotic Factor, Vintage Story, One shot, Frostpunk 1/2, modded MC (Nomifactory), Core Keeper, Balders gate 3 and more

I like, customized my OS once a year ago on Linux and never really tweaked it again. It's no different from Windows in this regard. People just use their computer for work, gaming, and other software even on Linux.

Honestly, I still have not figured out how to set up a Windows VM on Linux. The main problem has just been using music production software. Gaming has been fine.

I did actually transition from Windows 10 to Linux last year. Which was honestly the worst time to do so, but I've still been able to play all the games I played before. I game all the time too, and even make games. I can mod a Windows game and use Windows live split on Linux.

For me Linux gaming has been good enough that I can do things like use Windows mods for Windows games. I don't play any popular games with anticheat, so for me at worst it requires effort to get certain Windows games working. Like finding the right missing dll.

I made my own profiler because Godot-Rust and Tracy weren't working on my Linux machine. But neither was editor hot reloading for my huge project.

Nature Domain concept art is for the voxel game I'm doing art for. This is a general idea of what it's supposed to look like.

For comparison, at render distance 16 right now I am doing 60fps. Before it used to be less than 10fps. That 500 alligator test I did last post? I would be doing hundreds of fps higher just by switching to my own lighting.

And again, a directional light just doesn't fit our underground game.

Updated the lighting to use floodfill like Minecraft does. I did want to stick with Godot lighting, but the problem was the performance was bad and it didn't work well with an underground game. Anyways, here is a nice shot of night time and some fire.

I was apart of the C# is the best crowd until I learned and used Rust for a year for game development. Now I am just annoyed with C#, but still think it's the best language with GC. Most of my experience is still in C#.

Just a short animation of the Dragonfly, landing and then terrorizing the masses. Typical dragonfly activity.

I really wish Godot supported Shader Storage Buffer Objects in gdshader. Using textures is difficult and painful. Uniform arrays are not a replacement either.

Finally got a decent pathfinding algorithm setup. This is the demonstration video of the result of optimizing the physics, pathfinding, and rendering for creatures.

The pathfinding is still A*, but with a nav mesh and ways to find the path faster via a simplified graph.

If you use gdextension, specifically Rust, you can get very good multithreading performance. Rewriting my C# Unity project in Godot Rust was much easier and it had much better performance.

Not yet and doesn't seem like a high priority either. The math to decode data in a texture wasn't fun.

Another thing is there isn't an in-engine solution to C# profiling like with Unity as C# is second class. Everything else to me felt the same as Unity. But the best you have for profiling is paying to use Jetbrains Rider CPU profiler. Unity profiling overall is miles ahead of Godot.

Shaders have been a bit miserable for me due to it being gdshader and lacking features. I do not like needing to pass a texture to pass data to my shaders. No Shader buffer objects yet. Compute shaders though don't have this issue as it's not gdshader.

Well, kinda... it appears creatures can get stuck when trying to fall down. At least the A* path works.

This didn't play nicely for recording, but this is 100k animated bees running at 60fps in-game.

How? Using Vertex Animation Textures. Before, we could hardly even run 200 animated bees at the same FPS.

Our goal is in the hundreds for visible creatures

I really prefer the model of open source games, free to download and play. Then on Steam you can pay for the game.

I am in game development because I want people to play my games. I don't really pirate myself, but that is probably because I live in the US. Large purchasing power. I don't condemn it
