Iโd imagine religion is part of it. Especially with heterodox ideas about psychology. When you believe in non-material things like souls it shouldnโt be surprising that that viewpoint clashes with empirical data based on a physicalist view of the world.

This political apathy is what allows people to say that we shouldnโt judge people based on politics. They think that after an election is done, we all gloat or feel bitter, depending on the outcome, and then forget about it for 4 years. Because thatโs how they think about it.

If your life wonโt be affected no matter who is in office, that results in a mindset where youโre apathetic to policy that actually does affect people. This apathy is what leads to the idea that politics donโt matter. This is the โsport mindsetโ of politics. They view them the exact same way.

I think many upper-class americans view politics in the same way. Thereโs that view that liberals and conservatives are the same, and thatโs false if you are a part of an oppressed minority (or care about others), but for straight upper-class white people, the outcomes donโt matter too much.

Unless you have money riding on it, your team losing the Super Bowl doesnโt mean much other than having to deal with teasing in your social life. As such, the outcomes of sporting events are only important in the sense that people may mock you, but it ends there.
30.04.2025 23:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
However, Iโm more curious about what causes this view, which I think heavily relates to how americans view politics in general.
I think most americans view politics much in the same way we view sports. We might compare an election to something like the Super Bowl in that case.

I didnโt know you were on here. Immediately followed. I loved 30 Days of Night, your art is so unique and unnerving. I especially loved your work on โDream of a Manikinโ in The Nightmare Factory, given itโs my favorite short story given your fantastic artistic treatment. Hope I see you more on here!

I've been thinking a lot about that bumper sticker which says "everything looks like a conspiracy theory when you don't understand how anything works" and folks it's pretty obvious to me that the people in power right now have absolutely no desire to understand how anything works.

Glad someoneโs acknowledging this. It is really annoying. Like, they seem to think that flooding their comments with โ๐โ makes the other person look stupid somehow, rather than making them look like theyโre losing the argument. Itโs one of the most pathetic rhetorical ploys.

Ligotti has some great ones, another I like is โWe may hide from horror only in the heart of horrorโ, from โThe Medusaโ. Another good one is โWindows are the eyes of the soullessโ from โThe Dreaming in Nortownโ.

Would be cool if they did a realistic Clayface inspired by Olivier de Sagazan. I think it could be a cool direction to take it for the sake of horror.

Iโd definitely recommend checking out his other works. โTeatroโ is probably his best collection but Iโd honestly say he doesnโt have a bad story. Iโd definitely recommend checking out his earlier collections, *Noctuary* in particular may interest you.

Just finished J. L. Mackieโs โThe Miracle of Theismโ, which is a study on arguments for and against the existence of God. I think Mackie did very well at being mostly impartial, considering his agnosticism. 4/5, solid work.

The story โCinnamon Shopsโ itself is maybe one of the most beautiful things Iโve ever read. I love Schulz, but I really struggle to read him for a long time because his prose is just such a treat that I take in every sentence deeply and feel exhausted by the end of each story.

But they should still read. Itโs like exercising. Everyone should get exercise, but Iโm not gonna insult people for not having the time to do it, because thatโs not their fault. Sorry if it seemed like I was trying to insult you. I actually agree with what youโre saying.

I wouldnโt say that this has to be a knock against you. I agree that most of the people in this thread are being dicks, but that doesnโt change the fact that you should read when you can. I think itโs unfortunate that many people arenโt afforded the time to read, and thatโs not their fault. 1/2

Do you think that when this person was saying people should read more, they meant that they should be reading childrenโs books to be informed on current issues? It kinda sounds like youโre upset with a very basic take because itโs about you. People should read. That shouldnโt be controversial.
