24.01.2025 15:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0APPG transparency is a really important one. Extending from that- do you think MPs should publish involvement in external organisations, external speaking arrangements and/or lobbyists they give Westminster access to?

Congratulations to our friends @dignityindying.org.uk- weβre now a step closer to people having greater choice at the end of their life.
Centre will now start working on our submission to the bill committee- so if anyone wants to talk on this, let me know.
The assisted dying bill has passed its first major hurdle in the House of Commons.
This is a step towards greater choice at the end of life.

27.11.2024 08:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0(Donβt even get me started on how we have a men problem in Parliament!)
25.11.2024 08:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Whilst this is good news, Iβd also like to see government focus on the health of spiking, and how we can increase the capacity of spiking tests/supporting victims.
I was spiked in the Parliamentary bar last year, which shows more police presence isnβt everything.

Some MPs opposed to assisted dying bill have raised questions on drafting & whether it is sufficiently watertight. Turns out it was drafted by Dame Elizabeth Gardiner, who retired this year after almost a decade as first parliamentary counsel, govt's top legislative drafter.

Nearly two years ago, @tortoisemedia.bsky.social unveiled the Westminster Accounts, a free tool designed to give people greater understanding of the money that flows through parliament.
Now, with Peer Review, we take on another arcane part of our system - the House of Lords
Such a well-written piece @willhaycardiff.bsky.social. Thanks so much for writing :)
19.11.2024 21:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Excellent column. Public engagement could have been better but the politicians involved can be proud of spending political capital to save lives.
βEvidence-based policy does work, but you have to own it, explain it and stay the course. It costs political capital, and politicians need to be braveβ
Is anyone else from the UK in it or did we just miss out? Photo is too blurry for me to see exact faces! π

19.11.2024 09:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yesterday, there was a major change in the criminal justice system thatβs largely sneaked under the radar: the doubling of magistratesβ court sentencing powers. What does that actually mean, and is it good or bad?
