Rayman 2 on N64 is one of the most astounding games visually. It looks like it could be a PS2 game, which is just as well as it would later go on and get a PS2 update/remake/port. But yeah, Rayman 2 is a game that defines that dark, dinging, atmospheric, muddy Nintendo 64 aesthetic perfectly.

I do think there is something to infer from the fact Anakin was clearly not comfortable with wanting to be upfront and honest with the Jedi. Selfish over wanting to lead a double life. Insecure the Jedi would punish him. Ultimately he is responsible for his actions though.

I mean, Star Fox Zero IS all new levels. Story isn't (it has some new tweaks but basically goes the same place), the levels though are totally different. Some locations reappear, but they're not 64's levels. Some are more radically different than others, but they're all completely different layouts.

I wonder if this is how the movie looked in theaters in 1977. It's hard to say, given the video signal is being crushed to hell over composite and commercial VHS was produced with that in mind (or worse, RF), but STILL. the funny thing is even this early its been altered to say "A New Hope" lol.

obviously some of this can be due to the age of the tape itself (it's older than I am!), but even still. The colors are super washed out, the laser blasts are practically orange instead of that distinct reddish-pink, Darth Vader looks dark gray instead of black, the Tatooine orbit matte looks flat.

Hooked up a VCR to my Trinitron WEGA for the fun of it and popped in a 1982 VHS tape of Star Wars I had gotten ahold of god knows how long ago to test it out and WOW was I spoiled growing up as a kid with the 1990s THX remaster because this release is fuckin' ROUGH to watch, might take pics later...

I also remember I unsubscribed to Just Write a while ago but can't remember why exactly. Actually that migt just be because they stopped updating at any regular pace so pft.

Correction! Sarge's Heroes was originally an N64 game that was then ported to PS1 and the Dreamcast port is based off the N64 version! Which is annoying, because ideally it could've been the defenitive release with the N64's extra levels and the PS1's voice acting and extra FMVs, but alas...

The detention block's matte paintings causing perspective problems at the wrong angles, the malfunctioning lightsaber props, hell just the vibrancy of the laser blasts in any action scene, and that's just in ANH!

They are! for every Jedi Rocks eyesore, there's dozens of little touchups that really help hide the OT's age that a lot of people take for granted because you couldn't notice that shit on crappy model CRT TV on VHS in the 80s and 90s but you totally can now on an HDTV at 4K.

they are really out of place, but they account for like maybe 5% of the total runtime. I recently rewatched the OT both original and SE over the summer and like, yeah Greedo Shot First looks bad, Jedi Rocks is kind of a vibe breaker, but that's a 1 second edit and a 2 minute song respectively lol
