I’d always assumed one of two reasons:

1] The bike has some kind of geo fence on it like a supermarket trolly and this expires at the river or some other borough boundary.

2] They do it to be shitbags.

I can see Lindelof enabling this when he’s up to speed. It might mean pushing Ezri out to right back like he did so often in 2023/24 but having him tuck in to form a three when Pau or A.N. Other pushes into central midfield.
