Yes, it sucks. It would have sucked less for me if I had known to submit form 56 (w/ copy of court appt as executor) to the IRS. Without it they wouldn’t confirm they had received the 1040 or processed it. This delayed wrapping up the estate many months. But you must have better advisors than I did.

He probably would have had to take a lower-grade / lower-pay job at DOGE/USDS. But he’s lucky to escape. Look what happened to Secretary Pompeo, General Mattis, and Dr. Fauci. Not to mention all the others targeted by violent right-wing extremists.
