09.08.2025 23:17 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A fun day
09.08.2025 20:52 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'll be doing my homework just to make sure I don't eat at a Brighton restaurant operated by people from somewhere else.
09.08.2025 12:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just saw an article about restaurants in Brighton with the headline "where locals eat and drink" - like you know it's an authentic Brighton restaurant cos everyone eating there was from Brighton
09.08.2025 11:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Also at this bit and it doesn't come naturally at all, need to push myself for the sake of the work.
09.08.2025 10:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I go to Lewes.
09.08.2025 10:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Got home at an ungodly hour this morning, today was absolute hell. That's all the Catholic language I have right now.
08.08.2025 17:00 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This mix is so, so good. Hours of dub, disco, jazz, Balearic stuff.
08.08.2025 16:20 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Owed a few grand from the tax office, another blow for Rachel Reeves
07.08.2025 16:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Do they still do hits on the dark web?
07.08.2025 14:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In general I find this behaviour is common from liars or grifters, they seem to think everyone believes them. It's sort of patronising and amusing at the same time.
07.08.2025 13:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0She's Like The Wind is a real sad sack anthem, isn't it? Pull yourself together, FFS.
07.08.2025 12:17 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't disagree, I'm not saying bury heads in the sand. But as someone involved in this work I think you prob need to create standards and rules for how you buy and build it before just launching into it, and that isn't happening at all.
07.08.2025 11:21 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think it's further along than you have experienced. Also my experience is it doesn't take much for that to change, team to team, and rapidly.
07.08.2025 11:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I mean that it will be implemented by, for example, government departments or similar, without doing the work to see how or why people need it, or making sure uses are specific and helpful. Because the goal is "we have to use AI" not "we have to solve problems"
07.08.2025 11:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Basically a situation where "this new piece of tech should be adopted in all circs where possible" is the line for gov departments is like wandering into a casino in a suit made of money. It is disastrously naive and it won't just damage in the sense of AI, it will be a land grab over past controls
07.08.2025 11:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0The PM announced we are mainlining this into the veins of the country. Since then it is being treated as the necessary solution before a problem is defined, and in as vague a way as possible. Couple that with the blood in the water for big tech/big five and it's v worrying where it'll go
07.08.2025 11:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's the inability to deliver it without huge waste, greed, erosion of standards and duplicity by the massively powerful companies that are lining up to cash in on the naivety of the PM announcing a basically AI by default strategy. It's not that it inherently has no use, it's the forced default.
07.08.2025 11:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Right, but that is how the top down implementation of AI is going to happen, divorced from the reality of what people use it for and can get out of it. So sure it may be misunderstood and distrusted by people who are opposed to that, but specificity is lacking at more important levels.
07.08.2025 11:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That's a hugely optimistic take. Do you really think solutions that lack a problem don't get enacted all the time, regardless of making things worse or dysfunctional? Or that just making stuff worse cos it's cheaper isn't going to happen? Public services is what I'm talking about.
07.08.2025 11:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I don't think the two are separate, unless I'm misunderstanding you. There are things and uses being boosted/forced by that power which are not good uses, will not work, and will cause job losses, plus are part of a wider goal of destroying standards and risk mitigation to aid future money grabs.
07.08.2025 10:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0But I guess the difference is some extremely powerful organisations are behind the latter, idk.
07.08.2025 10:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'd say the criticism is no more scattershot than the boosterism, which probably makes sense.
07.08.2025 10:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's a real problem because of that presentation. I see it every day and it's only the beginning.
07.08.2025 10:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't know why I find it funny but Thames Water are still doing works near my flat and they've posted a letter through the door almost every second day for about two months. Sometimes twice a day. The letters all are very long, often contradicting each other. Just absolutely ludicrous.
07.08.2025 10:00 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It being marginally better than Google for random tasks doesn't really justify the fact it has been ordained the solution to every problem even before the problem has been found.
07.08.2025 09:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah sounds like a rough ride in store.
06.08.2025 21:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I forget where I read about it but had written it down. It does sound brilliant but obviously not going to be easy going.
06.08.2025 19:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Just bought King Leopold's Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror and Heroism in Colonial Africa.
