I sent this to 2 trainee teachers yesterday! You are absolutely right that there is not enough out there for students on grades 0-2.

A poster full of misconceptions such as "Addition and multiplication makes things bigger" and "Two negatives make a positive"

A poster full of misconceptions such as "Addition and multiplication makes things bigger" and "Two negatives make a positive"

A brain dump of mathematical misconceptions.

Which of these might be avoided through careful teaching?

Hi Maths folk, does anyone know of handy booklets to use for A-level maths intervention? Hoping for something that has questions that are easier and then build up to more exam style? Thanks for any help (also anything for Alevel FM would be appreciated)

In #MathsToday I did this as a starter on estimation.

With the aim of getting pupils to consider which counters are the 'significant' ones.

My daughter is doing her Sparx and she just spotted the Chrome now offers in-built AI homework cheating (see button at the top right - takes you straight to AI tools that answer the question for you). FFS.

This is a really good way to put it, the norm of doing independent study! I think setting specific independent study tasks for the first term of y12 can ease the transition from a prescriptive (spoon fed!) y11 too.

Not strictly #MathsToday but I was asked to spend time this afternoon sharing strategies with colleagues around how to secure strong A Level outcomes, here is what I talked about..

I like your suggestions… where do you land on loci and constructions? I would happily remove them completely from the entire maths curriculum 🀣 is there anything else other than Roman numerals that you wondered about fully removing?

Needed a new project so I’ve decided to make worksheets and accompanying videos to review each Unit of the GCSE Maths course. Unit 1 Higher (Number) just went LIVE on YouTube. I actually think these would be really powerful as a cover lesson. Bit.ly/gcsemathsH1Vid

Did you know I've been working on A-level content? I've managed to cover all of year 1 statistics now including in depth videos (a little over 6 hours worth), exam questions and solutions on each topic (117 full exam questions in total). All free, of course.

For the first lesson in #CoreMaths I like to get students to look at some recent news articles and do a bit of Fermi estimation using the figures.
The news is a bit bleak at the moment, but here are a few articles I've spotted this week - feel free to add suggestions to the thread!

I've made a couple of changes over the summer:
✨A new homepage with a What's New section so you can easily see what's been added recently
✨A bigger focus on KS5 with separate pages for A-level Maths and Further Maths, with lots of new resources, particularly for Further Maths. #ALevelMaths

New academic year, new Step Support Programme website!

Over the summer we have updated our website, had a bit of a tidy up, and added some new content.

One of the new features is a "Check in test' for students who have completed the foundation modules complete with marksheme.
