I’ve been doing a rewatch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer this week and it’s got me thinking…do we think Washington DC is the site of the latest Hellmouth?

Today’s writing prompt:

Pick an Object
Look closely at it.
Give it a personality.
Think about how it sounds with your voice.
Think about how its voice is different than yours.
Prompt: write a monologue for your object.

In an effort to hold myself accountable for writing, I’m going to start posting prompts on here.
Let’s start with this:

Observe the room
What do you see?
What do you smell?
What do you feel?
How do you translate what you see to emotions?
Prompt: Write the room as a character.

Having to fight Elon Musk at DOGE before we’ve even battled Trump feels like having to defeat the forces of Saruman first at Helm’s Deep.

California DOE fires back against Trump's executive order:

"It does nothing"

"It is against federal law for the White House to dictate what educators can and cannot teach"

Will not comply.

If you are a federal worker being offered a buyout, I would advise against taking it.

Of course, this is a personal decision for everyone and it’s your choice.

But these offers are a rush job. The legality is questionable and this admin does not keep to its word.

They aren’t firing for a reason.

Reasons to Live Through the Apocalypse Sunrises. People you have still to meet and laugh with. Songs about love, peace, anger, and revolution. Walks in the woods. The smile you exchange with a stranger when you experience beauty accidentally together. Butterflies. Seeing your grandparents again. The moon in all her forms, whether half or full. Dogs. Birthdays and half-birthdays. That feeling of floating in love. Watching birds eat from bird feeders. The waves of happiness that follow the end of sadness. Brown eyes. Watching a boat cross an empty sea. Sunsets. Dipping your feet in the river. Balconies. Cake. The wind in your face when you roll the car window down on an open highway. Falling asleep to the sound of a steady heartbeat. Warm cups of tea on cold days. Hugs. Night skies. Art museums. Books filled with everything you do not yet know. Long conversations. Long-lost friends. Poetry.

I wrote this on one of the darkest days of my life. It gave me an anchor to hold onto.
