Just now realizing Requiem hits right at the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil, cool time to revisit Raccoon City(Village was really near 5 years ago at the 25th?)

Also odd no legacy character has appeared in the last decade in the (game) timeline since RE6 - taking place in 2013 - except Chris.

Don’t really enjoy speedrunning RE & this one lacks infinite ammo options, got the handgun for future runs but Rocket Launcher is the only other ♾️ toy.

Less narrative regarding Rebecca, less item slots, no grenade launcher, I see no real reason to play Chris again. Jill feels more β€œcanon” and fun.

I’d be totally fine with a Reremake, this was 6 years after RE1…it’s been 23 since.

Swear I remembered versions playing a lot more differently than they do, and I’d like a definitive ending - there’s no version where all 4 survivors escape, even just put the two opposite ones in the same cell.

Resident Evil

REmake is still solid. Think controls might actually work better with the fixed camera than Zero even though this released first.

Glad the remakes and sequels after this stopped using gross ass giant spiders…

The lore additions like Crimson Heads and Lisa Trevor are neat.

After multiple attempts, I…don’t think Star Wars is enjoyable chronologically.

It’s all so anthological, aside Lucas stuff it really works better as pulp stories outside a timeline.

I *might* still read full eras in Epic/Omni, but also am ok just reading any arc that comes up in the roulette list.

Read the first issues of Gold Key Turok, Magnus & Solar + skimmed the rest. Neat, but I struggle with β€˜50s and β€˜60s pace of characters I love like Batman or Flash, not doing 200 issues of this.

Despite the effort to organize, think I shelve Valiant until Spawn or Top Cow is done, whichever’s first.

Big dumb long-form reading stack day 4

Knew I bit off too much trying to do all of these major hundreds-of-issues series at once, but had to test it. I think if I cut 2 books, that should work as a regular routine, steady and no binge burnout.

Honestly enjoying X books more dropping to 2 issues a night instead of trying to cram 3 or 4, even though it’s a 4 YEAR difference in reading time.

Just have to enjoy it while ignoring my increasing thoughts of mortality and the current competence & longevity of the human race.

If I’m going to incrementally read this much different material to avoid burnout, old comics are such a time sink I think I have to do just 1 Bat story a day.

Bummer as it adds probably 12 months to my Gold/Silver Age time, but I don’t feel so bad, didn’t realize Batman is bi-monthly until 1975!

Every comic book should contain:

- 1 thing that will not make sense unless you have read 100 other comics.

- 1 thing that will not make sense after you have read 100 other comics.

- The dumbest thing you’ve ever seen, which is actually

- The raddest thing you’ve ever seen.

The Animated Series scene. Picture One is Spock up close in profile shot, with a lush green forest background. Closed caption reads, "Have you tried to communicate?" Picture 2 & 3 is a different Starfleet officer, gold uniform. He's standing in a Willy Wonka/Dr Suess looking scene with a structure behind of reds, yellows, greens, and blues, both in a wall and bench, with a similar colored structure beyond. Closed caption reads, "Yes sir. But all we've been able to arouse in them is a sort of quivering motion."

More research, 1990s time dilation feels so wild to me.

Valiant’s comic relaunch barely survives 2 years as a full brand under Acclaim, but they crank out Iron Man/X-O Manowar, Shadow Man, Armorines & a bunch of Turok games in that same period.

That’s like a decade+ in modern creative development.

Considered dipping back into toys with the Mortal Kombat Klassic line.

But production/economics meaning figures run $10 more apiece now than similar builds of only 5 years ago, and out the gate Kitana & Mileena being retailer exclusives, the latter only in a 2-pack, think this hobby is not for me.

Bats reading definitely going to take awhile.

Think I’ll have to split Batman issues in half for a bit, 4 stories, don’t want to dedicate an hour to just that some days.

It remains 3-4 for about 20 years, though the page count does eventually drop gradually from 60 to about 30 over that time.

All of my political views and policy ideas have basically collapsed to "Punish the Villains" and I mumble it to myself every time I see a news article these days

Valiant

I uhh…decided to give myself time to sort adding all the β€˜90s stuff and started with reading 1950s Gold Key Turok…

Little chance I read 130 issues + Solar & Magnus, but being only loosely familiar with the N64 games, it’s interesting to see its origins 40 years prior.

Top Cow

Not sure how invested I’ll get beyond Witchblade, The Darkness & Tomb Raider.

Starts with Cyberforce. Ok setup, this is peak Image style but interesting cast established, the constant acronyms get real dumb though.

Star Wars

Always a quality crapshoot. Left off finishing Old Republic and we jump all the way to pre-Phantom Menace now.

Seems Mace Windu heavy, all right so far.

Spawn

Read the first 12, but again starting over. This era of comics moves at a fast clip as a lot was less about story(which is still compelling at least early on) than art.

Little bit worried these different β€˜90s series might blend in my brain with similar tones.

Conan

Left off in the mid-20s but starting over from scratch.

Continuity isn’t essential, but Barbarian at least flows as he traverses the continent, separate stories but each issue does basically pick up where the last left off.

Very verbose though, slower read.

Batman

Left off at Golden Age v3 early 1940s.

Detective Comics will go ok, anthology so the Bat story is like 15 pages.

Batman monthly is rough at this point to visit, with around 60 page issues to read every month.

Good news is once these start getting caught up I’m pretty ok halving my reading intake for the rest of forever.

Plenty of interest but nothing 30-100 years of continuity essential.

Monthly release cadence though I’ve found 1 β€œchapter” of a series daily really works for me, fast but not a binge.

My Big Dumb Comics Projectℒ️
Day One

This is definitely overindulgent. I need to be getting paid for media discourse as full time work, probably at least another half hour a day for all this.

6 long lines + 2 X books to ever possibly catch up + still want to read a DC Finest and 1 random thing.

Pleasantly surprised by Killer of Killers, great visual style.

Every entry makes me less interested in Predator lore though. Kinda prefer the semi-honorable-hunt vibe, and the whole race increasingly comes across as cheating sore losers.πŸ˜‚

More interested in Badlands for the Alien connections.

I know the point of the show is to sell toys, but I think my main problem with Sentai’s high episode count is it just repeats itself.

Not even halfway through Space and they’re on their second set of Zords.

It’s gotten ridiculous since Zeo, where it takes 4 giant robots to go against 1 monster.

X Thoughts

Mojo II shows up earlier than I realized. Thought he was late 90s/early 00s, but he shows up Mid-1992, Mojo’s only been around since 1985.

Wolfsbane, personality-wise, is not a comic character I ever expected to see exist in a Wayne’s World parody, even in an X-Factor dream sequence.
