We are constantly publishing tip of the iceberg; number of pedestrian collisions and deaths. We don't talk enough about the intangible metric of how many of us have had dozens of experiences each, just like this. However brief, however common, they are near death experiences, and they stay with you.

Quite true, I would only be in favor of it in more rural areas where busses either don't run, or run but are routinely nearly or completely empty. The ones that run in the city that often turn a profit could lower fairs for all if not at least allow an expansion of services, and less personal vehicles

Maybe we can get a fleet of these as 'personal-public' transport vehicles? I trust robots over people to not run me over tbh.

If it is a service you are trying to incentivize, it should be run at a loss, certainly not profit.

Still waiting for you to let me paint another one @hfxgov.bsky.social My condolences to the staff member that had to come up with excuses to destroy it after the fact, but that staff report was nonsense. Calgary saw mine on tv and painted their own. Fix this disgrace.

Yep, no more surefire way to get away with murder than this.

I will never understand why it isn't vehicular manslaughter every time, if they're in the crosswalk, (which they are 80% of the time) it should be a charge.

An electric with a solid steel external roll cage on all 8 corners of the vehicle as well as solid rubber airless tires would make it safe even with the massive trucks driving around. (batteries can make them very bottom heavy.) A truck that hit it would only damage itself.

Maybe we can convince them to spring for ice cleats for everyone; ounce of prevention and all that.

Please tell me they're not trying out 'no salt on the sidewalks' again. Really don't need 2" of ice for 3 months everywhere I walk.

How hard would it have been for us to post a patrol car and 1 officer at either end of the only street we closed? :\

Kids are allowed to drive on the sidewalk until the age of 16, are they any less endangering pedestrians? No. Am I more danger to a pedestrian than a car is to me? Certainly not. Would I rather just have protected bike lanes so I didn't have to choose, certainly, but that is not the city I live in.
