F.D.A. Refuses to Review Moderna Flu Vaccine

Being in New Zealand has been glorious, and I’ve been trying to bring joy to our world that needs more joy and less rage posting.

But this is a rage post. You need to read this gift article because you need to be enraged.

it might take a few years of elections, but it's the most efficient path forward if we want to stop the terror for good. @indivisible.org is leading a huge primary program and we need to fund that work

Today's XKCD is a good way to explain to anglophone/US folks how the meaning of a chengyu works.

Republicans love adding seats to state Supreme Courts! They've done it three times in recent years. This latest court-packing plan will shift Utah's high court far to the right and possibly flip rulings on abortion and gerrymandering.

Democrats should take note that Rs have deemed this acceptable!

Still haven’t gotten used to the fact that we have a president who frequently goes on insane, explicitly rants against vast swaths of people.

South Carolina is not the only state with falling vaccination rates & rising religious exemptions. There’s a lot more measles in our future.

The Eugenicists-In-Chief are trying to ban gender-affirming care by restricting Medicaid funding to hospitals providing it.

Kids will die.

Please take 5 minutes to share your thoughts about the proposed ban.

Parents Navigate a Fracturing Vaccine Landscape

β€œI’m not a doctor, and I don’t want to have to do all the research,” said Cori Folkman, 48, a mother of two near Seattle, who is switching her children to a pediatrician who was vocal about sticking to the A.A.P. schedule. β€œI want to be able to rely on my doctor to know” @jackiantonovich.bsky.social

This is essentially blackmail and could endanger vaccine supply for many countries that need thiomersal in vaccines to keep them stable when they lack infrastructure to keep vaccines cool in transport and storage 🧡

This is so important because A) she did it in response to Benedict Wong, a far more prominent actor, saying he's listening to the audiobooks a lot and B) did it unprompted, she specifically stopped the fluff interview to draw the comparison to the themes of their film and support trans people.

Greg Bovino’s raids fail in city after city. They retreatβ€”and they can’t do this to more than 2-3 cities at a time, and it gets harder in each city. It took 3,000 officers to do in Minneapolis what they tried to do with 1,000 agents in Chicago. Friction works. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/trump-bord...

Two cities under siege Remarkably similar scenes from Boston and Minneapolis, 260 years apart, show a federal government betraying its founding principles.

New at The Watch:

I dug into archival witness accounts of the British siege of Boston prior to the American Revolution.

They are remarkably similar to what we're seeing in Minneapolis.

I think America is the greatest country on earth because it is founded on a set of ideals, and in every generation, people loudly complain about the country falling short of said ideals, and put everything on the line to ensure future generations might live to see them be realized.

I moved to the U.S. when I was 18. One of my firmest core beliefs is that there is simply no country, no people group, no institution morally superior to another.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it requires those who care to actively bend it toward justice. And many do try.

RIP Alex Pretti,
he was my Dads ICU nurse, he read my dad's final salut at the VA after he passed away. Never wanted to share this video but his speech is very on point. Also my Fathers final words to me was continue to fight the good fight. He would be honored in Alex' sacrifice, and ashamed of this current administration. In my Dads words I encourage you all to continue to "fight the good fight"

Man shot in Minneapolis by federal agents identified as VA nurse: β€˜He wanted to help people’ Alex Pretti, 37, worked in the ICU at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System and had assisted on scientific research

Alex Pretti took care of veterans as an ICU nurse. β€œHe was a super nice, super helpful guy – looked after his patients," said @dimitridrekonja.bsky.social, who worked with Pretti both at the hospital and on scientific research. "I’m just stunned.”

The incredible courage and calm of these women compared to the pathetic, sweaty cowardice of a gang of armed men with badges is truly remarkable. I wish none of us would need to find this courage, but I hope all of us find it when called upon.

This is such an important point. This family tried to follow the rules.

The distinction is going to get more important when they start mass deporting the people whose TPS status Trump revoked. They’ll call them β€œillegal” too, even though they were here legally until Trump yanked the rug.

Why does the Fahrenheit scale use 32 degrees as a freezing point? Ask the experts your physics and astronomy questions, read answer archive, and more.

Oh, I stand corrected! Originally F was between the freezing point of a brine (0) and "human temperature" (96 β€” a bit off) with freezing point of water in between. I guess there's some significance or luck to 32 being a multiple of 4

I believe it's because each was* anchored around the boiling/freezing points of water. F had 180 degrees of separation and C used 100. Thus the conversion being 100/180, or 5/9, with an offset of 32 (the absolute difference in the freezing points)
