09.07.2025 12:29 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Hello! I’m so sorry to hear you’re feeling like this, and want to say that I along with thousands of different other people on here hear you and sympathize. The current state of affairs everywhere is one so oppressive and heavy, like ambient heat, constantly radiating some sort of toxicity, smugness, aggression or derision. The pride that some of these people have in harming others or seeing others put under the boot is disgraceful - some people seem to truly want artificial intelligence to replace people, or believe it‘s so inevitable that they just want to get it over with. This is part of why you feel bad - because there are many people in the media who want to tell you how bad things are for many different reasons. The point is, nothing is fucking inevitable. Nothing you are feeling is illogical or intellectually ridiculous. You are feeling reasonable things because of the constant radiation of doom emanating from fucking everything. Let’s talk about AI job loss, and a little about my monologue I did, where I don’t think I clearly stated that while there are jobs being lost to AI, and jobs will on some level be lost to AI, the dramatic nature of this job loss is not imminent nor is it inevitable. Generative AI does not do the things that actually replace a person. It can do things that a person does in an extremely shitty way that demands that the person looking at it actually knows what “good” or “right” is, because generative AI does not know a single thing. While there are some bosses that will see this and fire some people, they will quickly realise that this doesn’t actually work, because what they’re actually doing is outsourcing risk and anxiety. A machine that sometimes gets something right cannot replace a human being in a way that is sustainable or satisfying, and in most cases just flat out can’t fucking do it. You have AI fantasists vigorously grunting at the idea that they’re able to replace 20 coders at once with the power of a generative codi…
And the reason is because a bizarre tax code law kicked in in 2022 that stopped them being able to deduct 100% of all R&D expenses immediately, literally just as they way overhired during 2021, the year when everybody was stupid and everything grew in the most insane way! We are seeing cutbacks from the most egregious overhiring of all time, except they have no idea how far to cut back because they never really understood who they hired in the beginning. They also are aware that AI is not giving them the growth they need. This is a tech industry problem but will eventually become an economy-wide problem when the mag7 gets shat on. Things aren’t going to be fun. 10-20% though? I sure hope not. And I don’t think that’s coming from generative Ai, nor do I see or hear any truly promising thing. This “artificial jagged intelligence” thing is really dire, like someone farted. Nobody likes it, it’s bad. Mass-automation is not what I fear, nor should you either. On Slop I think it’s alarming how many people fall for slop, but the reality is that there is something off with AI art that makes even the most normal normie uncomfortable, and I’ve seen it for myself with the normal people I know who do not drink directly from the firehose of the internet and tech news. People do not like AI. They find it nasty and revolting. It feels off. Everybody feels it. I do not believe LLMs ever go away, and I think that the existence of ChatGPT has unleashed a kind of sludge across the internet, as have meme generators and any kind of easy-to-copy image format. It sucks. It sucks that our information systems are now clogged with this bullshit, and in many ways that’s google’s fault - they don’t give a fuck and are emptying a septic tank into their own kitchen. What a bunch of fucking freaks!
Anyway, they’re going to get broken up, on some level, because of my other theory: Nobody Likes The Tech Industry But Everybody Loves Tech We love our phones and our computers. We love going online and talking to people. That’s why so many people do it. It fucking sucks right now because the bastards are very much in control, but something is changing. The average person is beginning to really dislike these freaks, they know something is wrong, and they are absolutely pissed off - and they want to know exactly who fucked up the thing they loved. You know that attachment that an uncomfortably large amount of people have to Marvel Movies and Star Wars? I believe far, far more people truly yearn for a smartphone that just does the fucking things they want. Everybody knows how much this sucks, and I believe there is growing apolitical pressure to suppress these fuckers. AI right now is the shiny political object, but when this turd begins to circle the drain, the economy is going to have some real fucking problems that can’t be propped up by spending $40bn a quarter on fucking GPUs. This entire movement is hysterical, and even if it continues far longer than I anticipate, it remains hysterical - the tech industry is spending hundreds of billions of dollars on GPUs to put in data centers only to turn them on and make - and this isn’t profit! - at best $13 billion dollars in a god damn YEAR. Once this shit falls apart, people are going to be looking for someone to blame, and we have an entire industry piloted by the most charmless, unsympathetic, dull, annoying and actively annoying buffoons to ever grace this Earth. Steve Jobs was a piece of shit but at least he was entertaining and seemed to want to rule the world by selling it what he believed was a perfect device (I’m not saying he succeeded). Big tech’s CEOs feel like the bad guy in a kids movie, lacking any real definition or purpose other than the fact that they will defend Their Decisions At All Times, even i…
Left this comment about the current fears that people have over AI and what gives me hope on the Better Offline Reddit and wanted to share. I’m sure I missed something but whatever
