I'm voting Sparky until a candidate starts adopting his platform planks, and thank him & you for setting a pole. It makes me very sad that no one else is coming close to meeting the moment.

Thankfully just a dusting, but with strong winds & freezing temps. Nothing like last time, though. I feel for NYC/NJ/Philly.

The only redeeming feature of the story getting out is that it busts up the RFK effort to paint the disease as no big deal. (The i!!INE wipe out it causes in some substantial % of cases (half?) is also an important counterargument, but is nowhere near as lethal or dramatic. Pretty pernicious though

Prayers unanswered. An unvaccinated child (infant? I can't bear to read closely) in SC, where the outbreak is big enough to make an encephalitis case almost inevitable, has been diagnosed with it. x.com/JamesTate121...

One of the major points of this excellent talk by Michael Parenti - how the struggle for procedural/formal democratic freedoms is intimately intertwined with substantive/material advances: m.youtube.com/watch?v=B9Mk...

Memorial planned for site of now-removed Fredericksburg slave auction block - WTOP News A new memorial in downtown Fredericksburg at the site of the city’s historic slave auction block will provide historical context to what happened there 175 years ago.

Pretty cool new monument going up in Fburg to honor the people sold at the auction block before the civil war.

β€œWe have found the names of about 100 of those individuals.”

I think it’s time for Democratic leaders to start saying β€œif you’re a pilot or ground crew involved in a deportation that was stayed by a judge, you’ll be held criminally liable for human trafficking.” Everyone involved in these flights should have that fear in the back of their minds.

Thanks for this info. Best wishes for success! I'm in VA; we have no such legislation on the horizon afaik, & session is so short it requires massive pre-planning. I could swear that reporting a year ago about the horrors in the Balto federal center holding area asserted that as a reason/excuse.

I think they have understood that Bovino is toxically bad PR, so will keep him out of the limelight, but it's not good news they're renting offices across L.A. county.

Just yday read they're planning to intensify the assault on greater L.A., including a focus in the valley on the supposed "Armenian crime rings". So Oz may swoop in for more showy ethnic hostility.

I learned this from the film Fred made about his father in 1983, which I watched with his brother Larry at a showing in Chicago. It brought the red scare home to me in a way that few other accounts could have. It also made me want to see a Gayle Sondergaard movie, which I haven't managed.

The father of Fred Marx, of Hoop Dreams film, was a schoolteacher called before HUAC on the same day as Sondergaard. Because of all the press coverage, his presence was way more publicized than it would have been otherwise, causing crisis w/his job & family. He died of a heart attack at 40.
