We had pet chickens for several years & they're right. Feed, grit, oyster shells, meal worms, treats, toys, the coop, heaters... it adds up! Even buying "pasture-raised" eggs is cheaper than having our own egg layers. I do miss my sweet "baby dinosaurs," though.
