I still can't get over how cool cells can be reaching out and interacting with one another! This depth shaded membrane marker gives us an idea of how dynamic these extensions can be! #FluorescenceFriday π¬π§ͺ

Its FINALLY here! The first #FluorescenceFriday π§ͺπ¬out of the Hall lab! We're still in the process of optimizing different fixatives to look for cytonemes and cellular extensions, but a fantastic first time imaging them from Morgan Hiebert!

NIH3T3 cells with a long cytoneme contacting one of the cells to deliver a signal. The SHH ligand is in magenta, the SHH transport protein DISP is in red. Nuclei are blue. Green is the adhesion protein BOC.
Despite all that is going on, I will not miss a #FluorescenceFriday! β This is a confocal micrograph of a long cytoneme making contact with a recipient NIH3T3 cell (right) to deliver SHH ligand. The π£ dots are packages of SHH. Very cool! π¬ by former postdoc @erichall.bsky.social. π§ͺ #SciArt #DevBio

Here is an early #FluorescenceFriday post - a 3D render of a developing mouse neural tube showing a signaling filopodium (cytoneme) reaching toward a primary cilium (green) to deliver a cellular signal (SHH, magenta). See alt text for details. Research supported by #NIH #NIGMS π¬ by Eric Hall. π§ͺ
