This was my first publication in Chinese. The excitement of seeing my byline in a new language never fades! It was surreal enough in English to write about the first storybook I ever owned: Thakumar Jhuli, which my dad got me for my 6th birthday. Doubly surreal to see that cover in a Chinese mag.

I'm glad that 0GSF dated the essay because I wrote it *just before* there was a BIG boom of South Asian authors in international sff. I was fairly comprehensive about the older literature but if you don't see some of your favorite current #SouthAsianSpecFic writers here, that is why!
