Fernandez's 4th and final stint with the Jays was 2001, his last season. I attended a game on Sept. 4 when he hit a PH GS off Ted Lilly, his last MLB HR. (Jays thrashed New York 14-0). I remember feeling emotional watching him round the bases knowing it would be his last great moment in Toronto.

Every kid in southern Ontario c. 1984-93 tried to imitate his backhand/jump/spin/throw or his "relaxed" batting stance. He epitomized how cool it was to be an All-Star & Gold Glove major league baseball player. (...cont'd)

Quick question: would the scoring be any different if the 1B made a good, accurate throw to the plate, the catcher caught it cleanly, turned to tag the runner from third, but was simply late? Would it then be a straight fielder's choice, no error and an earned run?
