Government workers who are being illegally fired by the thousands are being told that their work does not align with the President's priorities. But the President's obligation is to execute the law, not to impose his own agenda on the country. The word for what Trump is doing is tyranny.

They cannot talk about the shutdown without lying.
There is no connection between troop payments and federal employee layoffs. Zero.
They are paying the troops with multiyear R&D allocations within DOD. This is also illegal by the way! But completely disconnected to the layoffs.
The regime gets more deranged every day. A rightwing conspiracy theorist assassinated a Democratic lawmaker - which the attorney general presents as an example of leftwing political violence in order to justify an authoritarian crackdown on the oppositionβ¦
Weβre in incredibly dangerous territory.
Military/Paramilitary forces vary in their professionalism. Some, like the FBI and DOD have high professionalism and high commitment to rule of law. Some, like ICE, don't. So Trump is purging DOD/FBI in the hope that leaders will become more like ICE.

Trump's 3 step plan to create a military omniforce
1. Purge - those deemed disloyal
2. Merge - different parts of law enforcement/military
3. Surge - impose the omniforce on Dem cities; instigate unrest; assert dominance; silence dissent

11.10.2025 17:10 β π 1149 π 337 π¬ 27 π 31What happened at WaPo matters because it captures a broader rightward shift in elite business and media circles - a pervasive tendency of civic institutions to accommodate and acquiesce the regime, to choose appeasement and even active complicity.
That is how authoritarian rule is consolidated.
I guess the one positive effect here is that, as more people realize what WaPo is now, it will hopefully become more difficult for Thiessen to fulfill his mission of laundering reactionary talking points for a mainstream audience.
But overall, this is such an ominous sign of where America is going.
Both the more long-term rot and the very recent decay, perfectly captured: Thiessen has been producing disingenuous reactionary garbage for years at WaPo - that, in fact, was his entire mission. But until recently, excellent people were also writing opinions for them. They're gone. His ilk is left.
