Opinion | We’re All Fascists Now (Published 2018)

The column is also cloyingly smug while totally missing the gathering fascism at her door.

An earlier version of this essay cited criticism of the commentator Dave Rubin as an example of left-leaning attacks on liberals in the public sphere, and linked to tweets that described him as a fascist. Those tweets came from an account that has been reported to be fake.
Therefore the example and the links have been removed.

I didn't realize that the the column where Bari Weiss cited a fake Antifa account was titled, "We're All Fascists Now"

It's a truly bizarre tone to the whole piece.

This story is so confusing and weird. They barely lay out any details about the policy, instead going on for many grafs about Hegseth taking away desks in the Pentagon media room.

There is very little about why this matters or why people should care -- and they should!

Pentagon Relaxes Press Access Rules

It's weird to see someone report so cheerily on their own demise. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/06/b...

This isn't like Uber or the railroads where you only need a one-time massive outlay to build the general infrastructure. Instead, you basically need to replenish those costs every 1-2 years. He compares buying $240 BB in chips to buying a tanker full of bananas. The shelf life is tiny.

Though I found the argument in Derek Thompson's recent podcast & Substack about the Capex explosion really compelling.

Basically, 60% of AI-related "Capital spending" is for chips that will, by definition, be outmoded in a year or two. So 0.60/400BB = $240BB in extremely short lived infrastructure.
