This is exactly why I was never quite convinced we should keep the statues rather than melt them down.

In a year of many difficult budget decisions, we are grateful to the DC Council for keeping funding for the new DC State Archives building at UDC in the capital budget, and including additional funds to improve Naylor Court. These projects preserve important DC and federal history!

When I first learned that the Office of Planning put the Chevy Chase historic district on hold to do an equity study, I imagined something more...equitable.

Budget woes jeopardize plan for costly new D.C. Archives building Duke Ellington’s birth certificate, Frederick Douglass’s will, and other documents in the DC archives are in a building that once was a stable.

In this article, Bowser money man Kevin Donohue claims their harebrained scheme to put the DC Archives in a shed will cost half of the 2018 budget estimate.

Putting aside the effects of seven years of inflation, he is just lying. They haven't taken a cost estimate for their scheme.

It was quite a lot of whiplash for us too - the project seemed perfectly on track until a few weeks before the Mayor's budget was released.

To everyone who wrote a one line email, testified, or just bothered your councilmember at Safeway, this is your victory.

The new archive will open later than we hoped, but the funding for the current building will make DC's most valuable historic resource available like never before—and soon. 🗃️
