Not especially "Christian Democratic" - "conservative-liberal" or "Nordic conservative" might be a better description. FF is a better analogue to the Canadian Liberals or to a lot of EPP parties in terms of its traditional space in the political ecosystem.

Officially the "Monaghan Protestant Association" and the "Donegal Progressive Party". AFAIK the current FG TD for Monaghan (HH's successor) ran in the past as a MPA candidate.

FG in the border counties would traditionally have had two contradictory votebases, the other of which was Definitely Not The AOH. This revival attempt in Cavan would have been prior to the Varadkar/Harris era, of course, where it would not have fitted the new image.

Still supposedly a factor in FG politics in Monaghan (there was an attempt by local FGers in Cavan to revive them a decade or so ago).

It's not that there might not be an appetite for a change in government policy (or change of government full stop), but those people who view this as a mandate for the most crankish parts of the Trot/SocDem/Green agendas might well be in for a land when the general election comes round.
