Yes complain! Especially to the vendor! And tell the specialist who buys books for your subject area, and your course reserves dept, if you have one, this is BAD. Proquest has always ignored what librarians ask for. There needs to be a lot more pressure to fix anything about academic ebooks.

Fwiw, your librarians probably did not choose adding the AI stuff. I didn't even realize the platform change until this post. Publishers and databases are all springing at integrating this garbage, and then they'll turn around and charge libraries a higher price for "added value" to their products

Good context, I agree. While there may be little we can do about the decisions the publishers make (a lot of which we all hate 🙄), at the very least I always appreciate testimony from patrons. It guides negotiations and gives concrete evidence to the librarians who deal with reps.

Are they planning to do in text citations? I teach and use Zotero in Drive a lot. Try adding one random citation to a "test" sentence - after one in place, you can populate the bibliography and it should automatically update as more in text citations are added.
