These scientists should take a page out of Trump's book and sue RFK Jr for defamation.

Anecdotally, some of the most individualistic people I've met in my life have been Japanese or Chinese lol. But I think what's ultimately probably true is that human beings are just a "collectivist" species, and that's very uncomfortable for modern, especially modern Western people to acknowledge.

Yes, that's a great example!

What "collectivism" actually means is important here as well.

Just because Americans, for example, seem to do things like place more emphasis on personal preference or not defer to their parents, doesn't mean a)that these things are true in reality and b)that there aren't other ways Western culture is "collectivist."

I research Japanese literature (but am not in any of the hard humanistic sciences) and in my experience the real issue with the way that people in the West view "collectivist" Asian cultures is that they have an extremely poor understanding of the collectivist structures in their own cultures.

Thank you for talking about this issue Representative Min. Like many people however, it is hard for me to understand why more is not being done. Why has no law enforcement been called in to remove Musk and his people? Why hasn't the California AG sued DOGE for violating my privacy as a Californian?

I hear you on this problem for sure. I err on the side of breaking the words up usually (but not always) because we use spaces in English to denote separate words, and therefore it is more natural for an Anglophone reader imo.
