β€˜Sex reversal’ is surprisingly common in birds, new study suggests Survey of five Australian avians finds numerous discordant individuals, including a genetically male bird that had laid an egg

Well this is wild (and cool!): birds may have a previously unrecognized ability to switch sexes. #ornithology www.science.org/content/arti...

Closed minded scientists like this guy are my least favorite type of person. Imo you're not good at the scientific process if you can't apply it to many aspects of your life, outside only your field. Everything on this planet has connections, how are science and humanities so different?

So far, cool things at ESA that tell me I'm surrounded by my people: I've noticed 4 or 5 sciart booths in the exhibition hall selling ecology themed art. One booth is just piles of free books. According to an email, there's a gear swap booth where you can donate/get field gear. Awesome.

Great evidence based article! I have high cholesterol and seed oils were recommended by my doctor AND dietician alongside olive oil. Also sunflower oil is a staple of Bulgarian cooking so I'm not removing it from my kitchen any time soon. πŸ™„

I have a deeply ingrained memory of extracting DNA in the mornings while listening to the paper cutter in the background.

And btw, guess what Qiagen is giving away as a prize today at the ASM conference. πŸ˜ƒ I was just telling an undergrad coworker about gut check too.

Both captions and ASL interpreter at #ASMmicrobe opening last night! Great steps towards DEI. Captions weren't great but something to work on for next time.
