I feel like you are suggesting that people who think public schools should be well-funded and good are obligated to subject their own kids to a bad school if that is the one available to them. Which doesn't seem fair or realistic to me.

I just don't think this is true. Klein clearly doesn't think Kirk is right on substance and doesn't say that he thinks that.

Really? I just finished listening to this and I did not hear it this way. Klein had Coates on in the context of Coates writing a piece critical of Klein. And I mostly heard Klein making a case for his (widely criticized) approach, not "demanding" things for Coates.

I can't really get behind this sorta post cos on some level... yeah, I'll do that. It's easy for me to see the worth and value of people who respect me, and hard for me to see it in those who hate or oppress me: but I'm committed to doing it all the same. So yeah, I'll work harder for those cases. 🤷🏽

I largely agree, but I still think free speech is an important concept. Popular backlash is not the same as government coercion. We're not all going to agree on exactly what is good and bad and I want to be able to say what I think when the other side is in power (like now).

This is close to my understanding of what is going on, though I'm not sure he necessarily thinks Kirk and Shapiro are 100% good faith actors. I think he thinks that engaging with figures on the other side who are already popular and mainstream does more good than harm.

I don't know about all the specific dealings he's having wrt his book, but I do know that he thinks dems are strategically dumb to not go on Joe Rogan (etc.) and get themselves in front of those huge audiences.

I think he sees himself as strongly opposing this admin, and that a big part of the work that needs to be done is building a winning coalition to oppose Trump.

I find the whole thing with how Ezra Klein is perceived by the left (at least on here) both fascinating and disappointing. He has been speaking out about and explaining how the Trump admin will be much more dangerous this time around since well before inauguration.

There are many people using AI for this stuff just for fun though. It's not just professionals who should know better. I had thought that sort of thing relatively harmless. This is interesting news.

I don't know about the Bezos thing. But he likes Ezra Klein. They have a rapport. They agree on a lot. I would earnestly encourage you to listen to this. I think Ezra Klein has been misunderstood to some extent by many on the left.

I'm angry about his decision too, but in terms of the procedure for administrative stays, my understanding is that this is a normal thing that happens all the time.

I heard a social scientist talking recently about how people are rarely willing to admit to egregiously violating norms of their culture. So if the only choices they have are doing that or remaining in their current culture, they will usually remain. It's how cults retain people, apparently.

I agree. At the same time I feel like there are two concerns in tension. One is about straightforward truth and morality. The other is about political strategy and achieving desired outcomes under the constraints of human nature.
