My point is that the culture is only a relevant talking point if it is reproduced, and then only to those individuals who reproduces it.

It was supposed to last 72 hours. Ukraine had other plans
Four years of buried soldiers, dark winters, and cities turned to rubble β and Ukraine is still here, still holding the line that matters for all of us.

And the person demanding an apology is not the person you bumped into, but someone who read about the bump on Twitter.
24.02.2026 04:33 β π 24 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0To be fair; as best I can tell nobody who was actually there has said a bad word about Davidson. Both Coogler and Jordan are smart people, and they probably know that Davidson did not mean anything by it.

Having a tic is an unintended action.
Those two things are not comparable.
"I'm not looking to engage with you at all..."
Nevertheless you are consistently engaging with me, so I am encouraging you to do it by choosing a specific case that you consider to be a good example of the trend that you describe in general terms.
Seen from abroad, it seems like Democrats hardly even talk about pronouns. It is a caricature that Republicans are drawing, not something that is actually a major issue for Democrats.
24.02.2026 02:27 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'd be happy to engage with you on a specific example. Preferably regarding the Nordic countries of which I am most familiar.

24.02.2026 01:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"...when you exclude them from such discussions."
I legitimately can't recall any online discussion of immigration-related issues without descendants of immigrants getting involved and being very much included. I'd be happy to have my ignorance enligthened with an example.
Legit curious; what let you to believe that this is what the online discourse in the areas I mentioned? What was your process?
I deliberately chose languages, that I know and understand, and I am genuinely not seeing what you are seeing. I see an online debate with much wider spectrum of opinions.
I still think the online discourse in say the Danish, Swedish, Norwegian or German language regarding those minorities, while it clearly has its own issues, is far preferable to what comes out of America. Much more often do we manage to have the conversation in a civil manner.
24.02.2026 00:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0I think we get to a better "is" by discussing what we "should", and I think this is a brilliant opportunity, perhaps the best ever regarding specifically tourettes, to talk about "should."
24.02.2026 00:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, one should, but that does expand the scope of the discussion wildly.
24.02.2026 00:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The problem with the bathroom break as a compromise is that there are ethnic minorities everywhere, and the compromise would reduce Davidsons life to one long bathroom break.
24.02.2026 00:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I want that too, but I also want John Davidson to be able to live his life, pursue happiness etc.
The solution must be education, which Davidson is a life long champion of. People who understand tourettes aren't insulted by such slurs (I'd be happy to be proven wrong by a counter-example).
I strongly disagree that The BAFTAs, or for that matter The Oscars, The Grammys or whatever, are a high stakes situation.
The attendees are just regular folks, neither more nor less deserving of consideration, sympathy or whatever we might consider relevant factors.
"I'm going to shock you here, but some of us with disabilities are the ones who make the accommodations."
I know, but this discussion is about how we want a situation like yesterdays to play out. I want Mr. Davidson to be welcome.
In Denmark we read Orwell in 7th grade, not high school.
24.02.2026 00:09 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"Iβm not saying he shouldnβt have been there..."
Isn't that exactly what you are saying, when you suggest he "could have taken a bathroom break"? Legit curious, not trying to be confrontational, but isn't "bathroom break" just another way of saying he should have left?
"Europeans sure are cocksure about abuse..."
If I was American, and if I looked at my own country for a bit, I would at least consider if some foreign lands, while extremely far from perfect, might approach the discourse around privilege in a healthier fashion than America.
"Do you think that was appropriate?"
If he felt uncomfortable, knowing that his condition is rarely met with sympathy and understanding, then of course it makes sense to leave. The point is that he should have been welcome, and made to feel welcome, just like a wheelchair-user or a blind man.
