Just a Poland Springs water bottle. Nothing special about it. I picked it up at a gas station on a 10 day New England road trip in September & October 2024.

Tonight I cleaned out my car in prep for the next road trip. I used it after getting home, then forgot about it. I still had it, a year later.

Dammit Fable! If you're hungry, then. Just. Eat!

Cat spent an hour tonight meowing at me and making a fuss. I tried playing with him, took him to his food bowl, tried all the things and... nothing. Finally, we tried the food again, he turned away and I stopped him. He ate and was happy. Ugh.

I finished writing an MG book in August & have been slowly transitioning to a new project. This is a YA/Adult fantasy, set at Christmas. I plotted out most of it last December and put it down for the MG novel. Now getting back to it.

About 1,300 words in the last 2 days.

I love history. I have a BA in it. I may have heard of the great, intentionally forgotten 19th century abolitionist Thaddeus Stevens, but I can't remember. Now, I've added the new center dedicated to him in Lancaster, PA to my list of must visit places. I can't wait.

I got new sheets that actually fit my bed. It was SSOOO nice to sleep in a bed last night with sheets that fit! No needing to stretch them out tonight so there's not huge clumps of sheets here and there.

It's amazing how being good to yourself can make you feel so good.

Fable and Myth are on a cat tree together! This is pretty rare. My ginger tabby is a big, big boy. And my little girl, who's average size, doesn't like playing with him much.

Oddly, she's becoming rather dominant about food. He won't eat his evening wet food until she lets him.

Working on revising an old, old short story. I originally wrote it in 2011 and haven't touched it since. But I found it while looking for something else, and I found critique notes on the story with some positive feedback. So I've decided, what the heck, I'll revise it. I'm halfway now. Yay!

Fable is doing very well with his buttons. I hardly had to prompt him today! He got his reward, then immediately pushed the button for another. Yay!

Any day now, he's going to go over to the buttons and ask me for things. I won't have to go to the buttons first. Any day now...

Fifth day of teaching Fable to use @fluentpet.bsky.social talk buttons. He is very good motivated, so per FluentPet he's learning Treat, Food and Play as his first button words. He knows them all. But buttons...

He isn't pressing the buttons yet, but he is pawing at their bases.

Fable pressed the button! Several times!

He's mostly focused on the reward itself and not HOW to get the reward. But he's moving in that direction.

Myth hasn't joined in yet, but I'm sure she will. She's not so good oriented as Fable...

Day 55

No writing on the MG novel today. Instead, I wrote a revised Ch 1 for the sequel to my previous MG novel. I meant to just put down a few notes, 3 or 4 paragraphs. I wound up with a complete 1k word scene. I like it way better than the 1st version.

Fable pressed a talk button! I've gotten him to the point of sniffing the buttons and brushing them with his mouth, but no actual presses yet. Until now!

It was just the one time, but it was his FIRST time!

I'm so proud of him.

Fable and Myth are learning to talk!

I received my FluentPet Basic Vocab Kit last night, and started today with Fable. I've always known he was smart. He hasn't pushed any buttons yet, but he already knows there's a connection between button and action.

The MG novel is finished! Came in at 61,287 words!

I was expecting it to come in at 63-65k words. So, yay! It's shorter!

There's still a few chapters where I need to iron things out, but I'll start on that next week. For now, it's finished!!!

325 words on the final chapter of the MG novel today.

I kept trying to get to it, and stuff kept happening. All day. One thing after another. But, I got there!

And, then, I didn't want to finish the book.

I'll do it tomorrow. Finish. Tomorrow.

Early post tonight, but I'm done for the day.

1k words on the MG novel! I finally figured out the problems and I'm back at it!

High Fantasy -- I'm going to set this down for now. It's been dragging and I have more pressing commitments. It'll wait for me.

Okay, so I took a writing break during WorldCon. Today was the first day back to it.

About 300 words down on the MG novel. Less than I wanted, but I'm still figuring out revisions to my heavily outlined chapter.

No high fantasy work at all.
