I can’t help comparing the massive effort to find Nancy Guthrie and her kidnapper to the total lack of interest shown by various authorities when Native and Black women and girls disappear and are murdered.

Every day there are hourly updates on the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, yet we have little to no idea of exactly how many immigrants with legal status and full-on American citizens have been kidnapped in ICE raids and remain in custody, let alone where they are and if they are safe.

Countless resources - including the few researchers and reporters in newsrooms - have been fixated on one elderly woman’s whereabouts. Where is the concern and urgency of locating and reuniting ICE abductees with their families? How many innocent children are imprisoned without their parents?

The search and recovery of one 84-year-old woman - the mother of a US oligarch - is more important to this nation’s media than the search and recovery of thousands of friends, family members and neighbors who have been abducted and disappeared in no less tragic and traumatic circumstances.
