17.02.2026 16:03 β π 23 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I know Jesse Jackson spoke so much truth to power for decades, often with memorable turns of phrase. But his most indelible & quotable line for me is "The Question Is Moot" from this 1984 SNL sketch (alas only available via this low-fi copy):

15.02.2026 20:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This shit rocks and the comment section on the YouTube video is, somehow, extremely funny.

Itβs always a matter of will not resources.
15.02.2026 17:30 β π 40602 π 13725 π¬ 651 π 585I really want to know - but once I know, I'll regret it
15.02.2026 17:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, on the Blu-ray!
15.02.2026 16:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Saw Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie yesterday, and I've spent all morning searching for interviews to explain how the hell they made that! Such a great time at the movies (even if some of my core questions are still unanswered) - no background needed to enjoy the ride
15.02.2026 15:36 β π 14 π 1 π¬ 4 π 1But that would require acknowledging that anti-racism is a reaction to racism, which clearly makes no sense
14.02.2026 14:22 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I want every cis person to read the conversation from this post down.
This is the reasonable concern that is robbing trans people of a meaningful life.
It's pure prejudice. Recognise it, and pick a side.
I really wonder how his admin colleagues and Columbia's tech donors react to their Dean for AI Initiatives publishing this!
13.02.2026 00:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Glad to see a Columbia administrator speaking the plain sense about AI so many college leaders refuse to contend with. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/12/o...
12.02.2026 23:13 β π 317 π 92 π¬ 9 π 10This is the perfect line of questioning to reveal that, even to "an expert" who wrote a book on "anti-white racism", defining "white culture" is impossible on its own terms without comparing to Black, Latino, etc. identity.
12.02.2026 21:29 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was a pretty memorable & vivid metaphor
12.02.2026 19:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm not believing this until I hear from people in the streets of MN and neither should you
12.02.2026 14:23 β π 2471 π 617 π¬ 26 π 3Got it - yes, I thought "fatal flaw" referred to overall impact, not intrinsic functionality. I don't play for social media points!
12.02.2026 14:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And in the 1940s, saying "nuclear bombs are fatally flawed and should not exist, so ignore the hype & propaganda and shut down the project" was totally legit and probably the right call. 80 years later, their existence is not up for debate. We're at that earlier stage with AI now.
12.02.2026 12:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I agree that anti- folks shouldn't ignore that there are legit uses, but the boosters cannot treat the massive negatives as just "downsides" on a pro/con list - they are potentially catastrophic at both macro & micro scales. How does me saying "sure, it's useful to automate coding" change anything?
12.02.2026 12:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My comment (sorry for the conversational sleep break) was focused on "fatal flaw" as the negative characterization for anti-AI, as I believe there are fatal flaws, while also understanding there are legit uses. The comparative impact of those seem so weighed toward anti- that legit uses become moot.
12.02.2026 12:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Good faith. I do think the potential economic & environmental risks outweigh the "things it's good at" potential, and which we lived in a world that there were brakes or guardrails on runaway techno-capitalist hype
12.02.2026 04:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Does destroying the economy and/or environment count as a "fatal flaw"?
