I understand most people don’t want to think about nuclear weapons or nuclear war all the time or even some of the time. It’s depressing and can seem intractable. But the 80th observance of a terrible event that changed the world forever is something everyone should reflect on for a few minutes.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

As an academic, I am doing this:

Uplift those whose research you admire. Diversify the academy.

Many ways to do this:

-Nominate for awards (did 2 yesterday)
-If you are in an academy, nominate to it (did 3 this month)
-cite them in a paper and/or talk

How and where is nuclear waste stored in the US? The decades-long struggle to find a permanent place to dispose of nuclear waste will continue, probably for many years to come.

Law enforcement officers should never cover their faces when making arrests or conceal their identities (unless they are working undercover). They work for us. We have a right to know who they are. These face coverings are frightening & unAmerican, as though they're ashamed of what they're doing.
