The awful thing is that 99.9% can be protesting peacefully, but all it takes is one person behaving erratically or inappropriately and it becomes and unsafe workplace. It's so frustrating.

On this day 11 years ago, I returned to Dalhousie, but this time as an employee. I've always been proud to be an alumnus of Dal, and I am proud to be an employee as well! As soon as this labour disruption ends, I'll be proud that my son is a student at Dal, too! <3

Dalhousie Faculty have never been locked out without a strike occurring first. But that was our last labour disruption with the DFA. I think it has to be really bad if the university isn't able to find money to meet the demands of the DFA.

I just recoiled when I saw that LinkedIn suggested that I follow Pierre Poillievre. Ah, no thanks. I prefer not to think of him at all, so I definitely don't want to follow him.

A large number of them are absolutely fine. Reasonable questions, kind support. Then there are the ones with inappropriate language (I don't appreciate reading "f you" while going into a public building), rude comments, and things like "I'm watching you". So they all get removed

I love the days that end with me thinking "How lucky am I?"

I don't know whether I wanted to see more of him or not. They seemed to be blocking above the chest

It does seem odd. I know everyone mourns differently, and as a human being I regret that she lost her husband and father of her children, but I won't mourn him myself. That's where I'll leave that.

That's why I understand why LTA positions can't just automatically be rolled into tenure stream positions. Perhaps some can, but it would be irresponsible and ingenuine for the university to essentially promise longterm employment using carryforward

I particular, I was interested in where carryforward comes from. I know in my unit, we direct our carryforward to ways to support students best (we don't have faculty members in my unit) like hiring temporary staff in clerical roles and funding programs for graduate students.

As a staff member who feels very much worried for the future, I appreciate that you've shared this. I didn't understand it all, but if you put that much time into writing it, I wanted to show respect by reading it all

I lived in Japan for 5 yrs after university. It was always so frustrating when people would simply repeat something louder if the listener didn't understand something in a new-to-them language. Saying the same thing louder doesn't help when you're speaking language the other doesn't understand

It kind of feels, from my perspective, that the union is trying to break Dal. It would never get this far if the university had the money. That's how they've avoided labour disruptions with the DFA since 2002. We'll all be looking for new jobs.
