My experience of local politics is it attracts kind hearted, great people from within our communities. They’ve often not been active politically before. Participating in our democracy should be a positive experience - for everyone. It was not for many in Goldstein. This can’t continue - anywhere

The campaign to silence voices opposed to the Israeli govts genocide, starvation, and apartheid against Palestinians continues. The Murdoch rags promote hypocritical attacks on Grace Tame while ignoring the horror of the IDF reducing Gaza to rubble and slaughtering civilians.

2/ We are saturated with crisis narratives.

And yes, the risks are real.

But if every story ends in failure, the implicit lesson is:
β€œThis is too big.”
β€œYou can’t change it.”

That’s not mobilisation. That’s paralysis.

Its a cycle. Actions-> Results-> Beliefs -> Actions

We need more stories that help people learn from what’s working.

Not just what’s going wrong.
Not just what β€œhas to happen by 2050.”

Real examples of action that others can see, understand & build on.

Here's a 🧡on advice & tips for sharing #climate stories that actually inspire action.

Ugh, yeah. Downplay scope 1-2 harms, overhype scope 3 potential benefits (and falsely take credit for non-LLM software benefits), don't say a word about scope 3 potential harms (such as accelerating propagation of climate denial/delay mis/disinformation). Just a transparently deceptive playbook.

Congrats on this important work! Really appreciate the thorough review & analysis. I know you know this, but one point that appears not to have made it into the report is that harm from generative AI (or any software) can be indirect (how it's used) as well as direct (how it's created and executed).

a chart showing the IEA's and corp's evieence mix

What we also found was, imo, kind of surprising - even the big IEA report last year into AI climate benefits relies predominantly on weak sources; overstating the potential climate benefits of AI by too-rarely leaning on reliable, tested, real-world demonstrations of tech deployment.

It's bad!

The free-marketeers at the Institute of Public Affairs are in the running for a $100,000 grant because their marketing strategy in opposition to the carbon tax was just that good.
The IPA has been nominated as a finalist for the Templeton Freedom Award for its "20 Years" of work on the tax, the group;s nomination statement says: "The IPA was the loudest consistent voice against the carbon tax in a time when there were very few dissenting voices in Australia." The Atlas Network website praises the IPA's campaign, writing:

Freedom Boy Tim Wilson even gets a special mention for attending climate conferences all over the world (looks like he was a jet-setter before becoming Human Rights Commissioner):
66 "Wilson attended every international climate conference between 2009 and 2013, including conferences in Durban, Doha, Copenhagen, and Warsaw, and was able to effectively communicate to the Australian public the lack of consensus over pricing carbon that existed among experts." 99
The IPA will find out the results on November 12.

"Liberal Party values are Australian values".
That's a direct quote from Jane Hume while she was in the Morrison Government.
But when you look at what the Liberal Party actually DOES when in power, its ACTUAL values are clear.
May these never become Australia's actual values.

I still don’t understand why The Guardian sees part of its function as straight-up signal boosting deeply racist sloganeering like this. Not even the barest attempt to explain to the audience how heinous this language is and why?
