The Anton Valley

Looking south down the Anton Valley towards its joining the Test. The road is the A3057 from Andover to Romsey.

Not in a National Park or a National Landscape, but there are some fine routes for walking or cycling round here.

In 15 years of train commuting I'd have none of it; incl "I'm holding this seat for my friend"

"We’re changing what we show you online and in the Tesco app to be more relevant to you." No, #tesco, I don't want targeted ads from 3rd parties in your comms.

#Tesco gouging its customer database further. Now adding 'relevant' adverts from 3rd party brands within their own channels.

Journey to Great British Railways gathers steam with landmark legislation Bill includes fare and ticketing reform and a strengthened passenger watchdog to create a better, more inclusive railway for all.

www.gov.uk/government/n...

SWR has more than tripled the number of new trains in service since entering public ownership.. and passengers can now use tickets across publicly owned operators during cancellations – at no extra cost.

More govt Comms hyperbole

Setting #Reform policies beside, Zia Yusuf comes across as very annoying. Given he's everywhere it demos the lack of serious people in the party.

I wish some politicians closer to home would learn this.

What a bizarre question and a strange survey. Not clear what they'll learn from it.

Councils in England face clampdown on four-day working weeks Steve Reed writes to South Cambridgeshire council raising concerns over performance and value for money

Another example of the government’s lurch to the populist right.

By most measures, four-day week trials have shown positive results

Reform plans to β€˜dramatically’ cut civil service numbers in government Danny Kruger, who defected from the Tories last month, has pledged a β€˜more concentrated government machine’

So Kruger's planning to dramatically cut the Civil Service, close buildings and stop WFH.

No mention of what Whitehall stops doing or how ways of working might change.

One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires Rain storms wash those tire shards into streams and ultimately into lakes and oceans. That’s bad news for fish and other aquatic life.

The economic disaster that is Brexit

The chancellor admitted last week that Brexit has hit productivity and the economy much harder than previously thought, a fact that the budget - courtesy of the OBR - would recognise.

In a little-reported speech last week, Bank of England monetary policy committee member Swati Dhingra gave a hint at official thinking, citing recent independent research suggesting that Brexit had lowered Britain's output by between 6% and 8% and investment by between 12% and 18%, compared with what it would have been had the UK remained in the EU. Worse, these losses are permanent. The devastating numbers, much worse than the OBR's earlier official estimates, are the single most important cause of weakened productivity. They also mean that the exchequer has lost not Β£40bn but up to Β£80bn of tax revenue every year. Outside wartime, no leading country has ever committed so much economic self-harm.
