The 70s crashed because of Richard Nixon, followed by Gerald Ford, followed by Jimmy Carter, all moderate to conservative presidents. Moderates are bad for the party. We cannot moderate when the choices are make things better, or literal fascism.

If what the right is advocating for doesn’t work, which the last 50 years has proven it doesn’t, why should we accept a watered down version of it from Democrats?

The 50s and 60s were a time of economic liberalism, which led to a booming economy and prosperity for Americans across the board. Since then, we’ve allowed Democrats to move right of that standard, and shit has just gotten worse.

The logic that you’re approaching this situation with is the same logic Democrats have been approaching the right with since 1976. In the last nearly half a century, it has only served to push this country further right.

Criticism turns to hate when your leaders work with the fascists, instead of standing up to them. Not a single democrat should have ever voted to confirm ANY of Trump’s nominees. They had 2 months after the election to strategize, and what they came up with was total capitulation.

Look up the ratchet effect; if you wanna know more about exactly why we need to excise moderates from this party, so we can make real change when we excise the fascists from our government.

You seem to be forgetting how we elected a moderate liberal to the White House after Trump’s first term. That didn’t exactly end well for us, and it’s because moderate liberals start from center and let conservatives negotiate further to the right.

There’s nothing moderate or liberal about establishment Dems. The only reason they’re not republicans is because the GOP became a far right hate group.

We had a chance to make Trump and the GOP look like idiots by letting them get the government shut down, and at the last minute Chuck Schumer folded along with multiple other Dem senators. The Dem establishment is too caught up in statesmanship to actually fight. We need street fights not fisticuffs

In a better world, reconstruction ended during or after Hayes’ presidency, with the antebellum elites being permanently barred from power, and southern states having strong civil rights protections.

Instead, we got 4 years of Johnson capitulating to the south (and by that, I of course mean helping his fellow former slave owners retain power over black peoples), and then 8 years of hasty course correction by Grant, who was way out of his depth.

Well actually, all of this started in 1864 when Abraham Lincoln chose Andrew Johnson as his running mate, instead of Joseph Holt, or retaining Hannibal Hamlin. If that shit never happened, we’d have had an actual reconstruction period after the civil war.

We won’t get anywhere by calling voters idiots. Tell people the exact truth; we have allowed politicians to trick us into letting them become our bosses. We hold the power to remove them from office, we are THEIR bosses, don’t let them trick us into treating them otherwise.

To insinuate that Trump won because Americans are stupid is an insult to the vast majority of this country who would never vote for Trump, and ignorant to the motives and agenda of the people who created this crisis in voter turnout. Don’t let them get away with it, call it out.

The right has been on a fucking rampage against voting rights since the end of slavery. A third of the country didn’t vote in 2024. Politicians are smart, they’re good at what they do, and right wing politicians are behind voter disillusionment and demoralization. They’re behind low turnout.

This mess does have nuance, it is multifaceted. Just because it looks like the dumbest situation in the world, and is, doesn’t mean it happened because people were dumb. People weren’t dumb, politicians were smart, for decades.

Can we stop with this? It’s so fucking dumb that we’re all acting like this is just stupidity. This was orchestrated, this is the culmination of over a century and a half of right wing efforts to suppress minorities, and demotivate progressive voters.

If all of this is right, then I have just one question for you: why were Republicans so good at blocking progressive efforts when Democrats were in power? If minority parties in the government can’t challenge the majority, how did the Republicans do it?

A video arguing that women shouldn’t be able to vote was just shared by Trump’s Secretary of Defense, the guy in charge of our whole military.

And Democratic Party leaders still can’t stand up to this administration?! Our rights are on the line and all our party leaders offer us is silence.
